What wood species is it?

Me, again. Looking at the Thomas Morse photos, the struts and prop appear to be a high gloos over some type of hardwood. I am guessing it is not oak, for oak tends to blacken over time when exposed, but I am probably wrong. I am familiar with wood species from my furniture restoration adventures, but ned some guidance here, which would be appreciated.

That said, those TM struts dont look like Ash to me and they are not bamboo either.
