Movies and Airplanes

Here's a category of potential interest, ideas, help, motivation. Feel free to add to this list. Being a resourceful group, we're likely diversified with many interests. I like films, and learned/enjoy much about aircraft ...thru books, and movies. There are many movies we can enjoy, and provide inspiration/ideas for our model building. Granted, historical accuracy can be questionable, but there many enjoyable films out there. Allow me to start. Do add and comment as necessary. Include warbirds, general aviation, bipes, monoplanes, piston, jet, we'll see how/if it....flies. Content/details can be found at IMDb site and others. (An asterisk * denotes a favorite to me.)

Here's a neat one from 1953: Sabre Jet. The movie isn't the greatest but the really funny part is that for the MiG-15s, they use F-86s painted with a red star on them and an Asian guy in the cockpit.

Very good Arlo....I kinda remember that. Think they had on TCM not long ago, but oldies tough to find. In my notes, I forgot 2 flicks of a title, and there's even one from 1929. Movie is The Aviator. Ones I had in mind :1985 story with the late Chris Reeve, and the other, a different one portraying Howard Hughes with L.DiCaprio. There are many more, re bombers, etc. Got any more, send 'em on in. Oh, a good one that's easy to find on the cheap or rent for a buck. Has some CG, but minimally and beautifully done, it's 2006 Flyboys. Triplanes galore, Nieuports, a truly interesting and colorful movie, but cold reality of the parachuteless days of WWI fighters. Dirigible scene great there also. Saw in a theater with super pix/sound. Was most impressed, and ending will stun you.

Here's a few from me.

Flying Fortress
Midway
Colonel Kato's Falcon Squadron (Kato hayabusa sento-tai)
I saw that last film once about 30 years ago. A well done Japanese war time production. It seemed so strange seeing it on American TV. ETA: Falcon Squadron wasn't the movie I saw, it was something else.
