Scout rebuild

Postby Dusty » Fri Sep 02, 2011 10:24 pm

I'm rebuilding a gifted Thomas Morse Scout airframe, the leading edge of the top wing was on the wrong way and the fuse needed a few stringers restrung but it's useable. I cut the wings per plan to add dihedral and sheeted the bottom of the bottom wing with 1/32 contest balsa. I'm building it for RC and think I'll remake the tail out of meat package styrofoam. Yeah, I fixed one top rib with thicker stock but I can laminate the one on the other side, if I bother.

Big motor!

Postby Dusty » Tue Sep 06, 2011 3:23 am

Just the covering and assembly to go, using carbon fiber for the wing and landing gear struts. This just came to me today, it has a round plastic radial engine and I have a round brushless airplane motor so I had to do a mock-up-it's a perfect fit! Way too heavy and it's supposed to swing an 11" prop, like putting a 454 in a Chevette, but it's been done. It could be practical for the big Bearcat or something though.
