Since I am much too old to try flying models, I am starting to build the PT17, which was the primary trainer in the course of getting my wings (WW11). If anyone has building pictures or suggestions I would appreciate seeing or reading them.

Hi Joe,
I don't think I'm too old to build flying models, I just can't fly them anymore. In 2 months I am 91 yrs old and love building models. As a retired military pilot, I obviously lean towards aircraft but I have built numerous sailing ships as well as some auto's.

Hi Cliff,

Thanks for your response, I appreciate any help at all. Since I am about to be 91 yrs old I feel that the help I get from Forum friends will be of great service to me.

Hey Walt,
You mentioned you were a military pilot and you got your initial training in a PT17. Nice. I've flown a PT17. Lots of fun.
What other aircraft did you fly?

At basic, I flew the BT13, at advanced, AT6 and twin engine trainers. I graduated in class 42J and was assigned to Military Air Transport (MATS). From there I flew a DC3(C47) to India and flew the Hump to China.Later I transferred to china and flew C46.C87.

Hey Bill, That's the first model of a C46 I have ever seen and it looks great.As I mentioned we got C46's at Kunming China because the field elevation was so high that it was tricky taking off facing the mtn"s in C47"s. The 46 gave us more power and a little more peace when the weather was bad. By the way, I picked up a war weary 46 in India and flew it all the way back to Miami, Fla.

Thanks for the picture, it brought back a lot of memories.
