Javelin build

Hi folks,
Thought I would snap a quick pic of my Javelin. My intention with this one was to make it a good rubber power flyer. It has been a fun kit to build! I mostly followed the plans, but I made a small change to how the mid-position for the motor mount post is re-enforced. As I mentioned, I used wrapping paper tissue, and it seems to have turned out well. Practice makes perfect wrt. tissue.

Don't really like the black cowlings in the end. I used permanent marker to blacken them...don't know how it will react to dope. Still to do - wheels, dope, stickers, motor.

This plane will go on the shelf until spring. It is a little chilly and snowy here in Canada at the moment!

A little chilly.... you need an emoticon with icicles hanging off it.

Nice looking Javelin. I glued tissue to the scoops on my model. It took a couple of tries to get them covered without any big wrinkles.

It looks really good.

With the wind chill temps & high winds these days, keeping her in
the hanger until Spring is a good idea.

I've applied 2 coats of dope, thinned 50/50. The paper took it well, can't complain. Although, transitioning from the dry house to the slightly damper outdoors (garage) for painting managed to soften up the tissue a bit.

I weighed the plane...it came out to 20 grams (no wheels, no motor). I think that sounds pretty good. Anyone else have an idea what a Javelin should weigh to be a good flyer?

I built the frame using "Great Planes" aliphatic resin glue. I think this is pretty much plain old yellow PVA wood glue.

My Javelin basic weight was 25 grams. Flying weight was 29 grams. It is a decent flyer.

skip the wheels I did on mine. grass doesn't hurt the bottom. use the back mount for motor longer flights. I used krylon clear instead of dope

The wheels do weigh. I've been using the ultralight plastic spoke wheels on Guillows planes where every gram counts. They don't look the greatest, but they're much lighter. BTW that's a nice looking Javelin. I keep saying I'd like to build one of these as a micro powered glider.

Hi all, My name is Kevin and i'm new to the forum. I just started my Javelin also as a Cub Scout project with my 8 year old son. We just finished the tail. I am torn on whether I include the the landing gear or not, I do plan on leaving off the cowling. I want to make it light and fly well. I have read some on the forum but still undecided. :?:

I am about to begin the the main wing and have a procedural question. Should i build each dyhedral panels separate and then glue them together or build the entire wing as one piece then separate them later to create the polyhedral of the whole wing?

I just looked over my plans and answered my own question about the wing build.

Going without the landing gear, I like the added weight savings plus landings will be in grass and on tile floors.
