Now I don't normally jump up and defend Steve M and David Duckett. No issue with them, I just don't agree with them most of the time. But I have got to say that anyone who gets on any public forum and makes comments like "the military is glorified welfare" is a fool! I am disgusted with that comment. To know that so many young boys and men died at various times throughout this country's history so that you could have the freedom in 2013 to write such hateful crap is alarming. I have no insider anything with Guillow's. I do fly in contests so I build very few Guillow's models, but the majority of the folks here have been upstanding and very helpful to many. Do us all a favor and actually stand by your word and don't come back! I have never been compelled to write comments like this before but you have crossed a line!

I have sparred with A few on this forum and defended the rights of some to state their point without things turning personal and rude.

We subscribe and contribute to this forum, with all our differences of opinion, because we like to build and see other build Guillows models.

I like a bit of subversive banter and humorous off topic stuff, but there is a line, and at this point it has been well and truly crossed. Marc, please take your leave of us, you will not be missed here.

The Purpose of this Forum

Postby Arlo DiPasquale » Thu Sep 29, 2011 10:01 pm

I have been a member on this forum since 2008 and have enjoyed being able to share my knowledge on this great hobby with others, as well as obtain snippets of useful information from other builders (more of the latter). I love coming on this forum and discussing Guillow's balsa model airplanes. I do not however enjoy reading/discussing who's models are better and whether somebody is right or wrong for pointing out a flaw in another person's model. All I am asking is that we all stop commenting on the threads that have nothing to do with balsa model airplane building, and if we have issues with another user, to contact them through their email or through the private message function on this forum, to ensure that the only public posts are ones regarding Guillow balsa models. It is already hard enough to get others that are part of my generation to build balsa models; with other, faster paced "hobbies" such as Call of Duty, etc. luring more and more people. We should not be the ones turning newbies/prospective builders away with our petty discussions/arguments over whether one post called for or not, and who is right or wrong. I hope that we can put our differences behind us and continue doing what we all love doing: building balsa model airplanes. Let us remember we all came to this forum for the same reason, and that frivolous differences should not drive us apart. The last thing I will ask is that nobody comment on this thread, but rather, take into account what I have just said, and if there are any questions, comments or concerns, send me a private message. I wish everybody the very best of luck in their balsa model-building endeavors!!

I logged on to ask a question about building my DeHavilland Mosquito and instead found that my words from almost 2 years ago meant to re-focus us on modelbuilding and not intended as a shot at anybody, had been used by an ignorant ne'er-do-well trying to point fingers and cover his sorry a**. I am sorry to bring this thread back up, but I was so put off that I had to comment. For the record, this guy did not ask to quote me (if he did, I would have said no), and although I am willing to put aside most differences, political, religious, etc., I cannot tolerate somebody that joins this forum solely to stir up trouble, insult long-time members, accuse honest people giving their 2¢ worth of being company stooges and worst of all, claim that the military is "glorified welfare." That is an insult to some of the bravest and most courageous men and women in American history, all of whom made enormous sacrifices so that we can live in a free country and enjoy freedoms we take for granted, such as this forum.

Serving your Country in the Military is not "glorified welfare".
