Series 400 Spitfire

Postby mark1993 » Thu May 24, 2007 7:24 pm

Hi I am new to the forum. I have been building Guillow models for about a year, and I love it. I am building a series 400 Spitfire and was wondering about color schemes(any ideas). Also how would you paint invasion stripes on a plane?

Or just google images of spitfire, that will give you tons of pics to choose from.

Invasion stripes.....consider painting the model completely first, then come back with colored plastic tape over the wings for the stripes.....Luck, JGJ

Two ways I can think of:
1. Mask off a square block on each wing, spray paint it white. Lay down strips of tape where you want to keep white and spray with black.

2. Since I intend to fly my models, I would just cut out strips of black and white tissue and glue them to the wings. Too save weight, paint can get heavy.

I am currently in the painting process of the same model. I am using the classic dark earth and dark green colors on top with duck egg blue on the underside. As Xanadu says, there are tons of pics and info on the web you can use as a start. The Guillow plan shows camo patterns, and there are many others, but what is good is you don't have to be exact. Feel free to make your own patterns also. The color schemes also vary greatly, but usually consist of a dark green and a brown or tan, sometimes a green with a gray. Undersides also varied, mostly grey or light blue. I've also seen some where one wing underside was painted black and the other pale blue. I also review on the web the plastic modellers kit builds. They show a lot of detail and paint schemes. Here is one good site: http://modelingmadness.com/kitindex/kitindexmain.htm. Good luck. I hope to have mine finished soon and will post on virtual aerodrome.
