Guillow's RC Electric F4U-1D Corsair with Rotating retracts

Hi everyone, I come over here and checkout this builders forum every so often to see some of the amazing builds of these kits. I spend most of my time over at RC Groups though. I thought I would share my most recent RC electric conversion of kit # 1004 of the F4U-1D Corsair. This is my 4th conversion and second in the 1000 series. This series really makes for a great RC conversion.

Amongst some very nicely built and finished models last month my Corsair was selected for the photo of the month. My P-47 Thunderbolt had also been selected several months ago and Guillows included the links to Video of the model flying on You Tube. They don't seem to do that anymore :( . Anyway the purpose of this post was to again share what I did to make this conversion and hopefully encourage others in this hobby to build and convert these great looking kits. It is very satisfying to convert a FF kit. I built many of the Guillow's kits in my childhood with little success so here is my chance to give back what I have learned to make childhood goals come to fruition, now.

At any rate here are the details of the F4U-1D Corsair.

Kit 1004 (Old version that included cowl and plans for F4U-1D version)
Motor: Himax 2015 -5400Kv (brushless in-runner)
Gear Box: Cobri 4.5:1
Speed control: Phoenix 18
Prop: Hobby Lobby three blade 9" pitched to 10"
Watts: 135 wide open throttle (WOT)
Battery: TP 3cell (11.1 Volt) 1320 mAh
Rotating retracts
Sliding canopy
Controls: Aileron, Elevator, Rudder/ steerable tailwheel, Throttle, and Retracts
Covering: Dolcalum (PET, laminating film)
All Up Weight 16.5 Oz.'s
Balanced on the Control line CG
Radio: Spektrum Dx7 with micro receiver

Also included here are the links to a couple of video's. There is even one of it crashing. Not to worry it has been rebuilt and still fly's great.

Thanks for sharing! I used your 500 series P-51 build log on RCG as a source of help and information when building mine. I'll have to check this out as I'm sure I'll want to try it out too some day.

Thanks Stic it is very fun to fly. It does get small fast though so you need to keep on it.

Steve, Thanks your Mustang came out great. Is yours the 500 series? Mine was Kit #402. At any rate glad I was able help a little. Hope you give the Corsair a try as it is a lot more forgiving than the Mustang.

Yes, 400 series. Glad to hear the Corsair is more forgiving, that P-51 is a handful.
