Silkspan

Postby Ken Miller » Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:00 pm

I have seen in various post people using heavy weight Silkspan. I have gone to Tower Hobbies and I find they have three weights of Silkspan:

1. K&S Silkspan Extra Lite 00 Weight
2. K&S Silkspan "000" Grade Weight
3. K&S Silkspan Medium SGM Weight

I am assuming that the heavy weight everyone is talking about is the one they sell as the medium weight.

Sorry for asking what seems a dumb question but this is my first build and want to try to get it right.

Thanks

The SGM is the heavy tissue and is a little harder to form on curves but I've had good results applying it wet. It works good with 50% white glue used as dope. If you are concerned about weight this probably is not the way to go unless you are substituting fabric strength for wood structure as this mil fabric does add considerable strength and shrinks quite well.
