good news. i got my engine going.

it took me about 30 minutes of messing around with it to finally find its sweet spot. i will say that torque is not an issue. i also burned up the entire tank of fuel, which means that the fuel tank is in correctly.

now the other thing. i do realize that my plane (with engine in) is very very nose heavy. so much, that even with the stab and rudder on the back, if i lift the tail up about half an inch it basically noses into the ground.... i know that balancing isnt needed too much for u control, but when its this bad, i might have to add some weight in the back.

After reading your last post about the balance on your plane my ears got really warm. My bad, I should have advised you to mount the fuel tank on the c.g. Please tell me you did and ease my conscience. If not the point of balance will vary with the amount of fuel in the tank, along with the flight characteristics.

Cliff, this is a 1/2a plane. It's just not that critical. Heck, even the guillow's destructions have you put the tank right behind the firewall... It'll be fine...

if i lift the tail up about half an inch it basically noses into the ground....


That's what full up elevator on take off is for... keeps the tail down, and thew nose up.

Lots of mine do that...

yes, i figured this would happen, but had to be sure. i would hate to see my plane crash and burn on the first flight, after all the work i have put into it.


i got the engine to start and run nicely with 6-7 turns on the needle valve. i figure i can go leaner than that, but this engine clearly hadnt been run for a while, and i thought the gunk in it needed to be flushed out with the extra fuel.

hopefully i will start it up tomorrow with more ease, now that most of that other stuff has been flushed out.

Well, yes it will fly but when it's balanced the aerobatics will happen a little more pedictably.

i have followed the guillows plans in terms of most mods and possitions for u control items. i know that the guillows u control planes are not really designed for too much stunt flying, so i will get myself a simpler plane that i didnt spend all this time on to do some loops with.

so i will get myself a simpler plane that i didnt spend all this time on to do some loops with.

Look up Black Hawk Models. They make a bunch of solid balsa 1/2a's that build in no time. I am trying to master the two I currently have before I try a Guillow's bird...
Current favorite airplane: P-40 warhawk, F-35 is close second

i think might go to the hobby shop to pick up another guillows bird. im not sure which, or what i am going to do with it in terms of fly it or display it. i was going to try a fully functional plane, but i am sure i will not get very far with it. ill give it a shot... how about a hellcat first? i have always liked the way this plane looked. ill see what the shop has to offer... i thought before i built this one that i would easily bring myself to build it again, but i find it hard to build a plane twice in a row.

got the control horn on and running smoothly ( i took it from the hellcat kit as the corsair didnt come with one) and the canopy. i also stuck on the line guid on the wing. ill seal and paint it soon. right now, we are looking at flying this in the next couple of days.
