Spitfire 403

Postby NiteSeer » Tue May 25, 2010 8:46 am

It's been fun working on the Guillow's 500 series Spitfire. So, I decided to build its bigger brother, the series. 403. Unllike, its little brother(an almostlaser like kit), the quality of the die cutting was not up to snuff. Therefore, I tacked the formers together to do whatever needed to be done to insure sameness. http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj25 ... 1274794539

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj25 ... 1274794668 I am using a homemade jig to insure a straight fuselage.

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj25 ... 1274794845 I drilled some holes in the formers to make for a lighter fuselage.

I replaced the Guillow stringers for some lighter ones. I think this is one of my better efforts.

I am not sure if I got this right, but it looks like you should be done with this build. I really liked the jig you made. I started using stringers attached to the other half of the fuselage formers that I would glue to the other half to ensure that the two halves were squared up. I also found that the balsa grade varies a bit over there at the Guillow's works, but if you are patient you can get there sooner or later. So far what you have looks great, the Spitfire is a beautiful build. Keep us up to date.
