Kit 803 Stearman PT-17

Ask other modelers for a little help / knowledge ?

Hi Dave - Gotta say, I love your pics of your builds. For me they're inspirational! I am only interested in static planes. I would love to know if you hints or tips for finishing these planes. Do you use the kit's tissue for covering? Is there anything special you do prior to finish painting? Thanks for sharing your photos...

I saw your latest build pics that you just added and read your article about painting with acrylics and that is enough for me to head in the right direction. Thank you sir!

David,
Like everyone else here, I enjoy looking at your exquisite models.
Nice to see a Stearman other than USAAC blue and yellow.

I will consider building a one piece canopy for the T-28, if BP wants to blow- up a set of 900 series plans to 30" for you.

I am building the Stearman myself and and have a question for you. How did you attach the plastic engine assembly to former B1? Former B1 is lager than the engine assembly and I am hoping you can tell me how you got yours to fit.

Thanks for the quick response.

That's what I thought would be the solution; however, I was hoping that you had found a method to stretch the plastic to fit over B1 without sanding.

Again thanks

Upper Wing Covering

Postby RAYD7024 » Tue Aug 09, 2011 4:12 pm

How did you manage to cover the upper wing so that the recessed area over the cockpit is wrinkle free. I've recovered that area with tissue three times and still have a few wrinkles? I an thinking that you may have covered the wings with balsa instead of tissue. is that the secret?

Stearman Pt-17 Wing Strut Parts

Postby RAYD7024 » Fri Aug 12, 2011 7:27 pm

Can anyone identify the Stearman PT-17 H1 and H3 parts? The parts as supplied with the kit have a notch where there is no notch on the plans. I would post a photo of the parts with this message; however, I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
