Alternative coverings

Postby rsampson » Fri Sep 02, 2011 3:17 pm

I am returning to stick and tissue model airplane building after a 70 year absence. I plan to build one of Guillou's balsa planes. I am doing a lot of research before I get started. One question which I have relates ro covering. Since I will be making the model for viewing only and never for flying, is there an alternative to tissue for the covering? It appears that getting a professional, wrinkle free covering using tissue demands a lot of skill. It would seem to me that there must be a better fabric if one is not concerned with model weight.

Silkspan or wood. Search this forum for "silkspan" for several threads on the topic.
