Attaching decals

Postby rsampson » Fri Sep 23, 2011 5:46 pm

I am building a Guillow Beechcraft Buccaneer from a kit that is 17 years old. I tested a piece of the decal sheet from the periphery of the sheet and noticed that it didn't stick to the test surface ( a wooden block). Is this because of age? Are the decals supposed to stick in place? Should I buy a replacement decal sheet?

I'd just buy a new set form the Guillow's website for $3.00:

Another cheaper option (although it requires a little more work) is scanning them in, and printing them off on decal paper or even regular printer paper and gluing it to the plane. I have used the printer paper method, and it works fine. If you click on the link below, you can see what the paper insignia looks like.

The decals on my SPAD are just printed paper.

The decals probably won't stick to a wooden block unless it is very smooth even if the decals are in good condition.

Try your test again, but this time onto something smooth like a plastic plate or a china tea cup, if they stick to that they may still be viable.
