Can't view all the attached images

Postby The Cameraman » Wed Aug 22, 2012 12:34 am

Hi Guys n Gals,

I know I've mentioned this before but it really is a pain and would appreciate any thoughts that you may have.

For example, if I start off by viewing the Cessna 180 Group Build thread, I can view all of the images on the first page. When I go to the second page, all is fine until I get to the update 'Making up the fuselage', dated 23-November 2011 and , at that point, I can no longer view any attached image.

I use an Apple I-mac, using OS X, version 10.5.8, through Safari, version 5.0.6.

Can anyone give me some direction, as this limitation's sending me round the twist?

Every other website I use is not affected, just this one.

Regards

Reggie

Are you Logged in when you view these posts.? That usually makes the difference for me.

Hi Reggie,

I have the exact same problem. Wildpig is right, just log in. I am unable to view about half the pictures if I just pop on the site as a guest to see what's new. However, once I log on as a member, all the images are then viewable.

I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with the method of how people upload their photos to the forum.

I'm assuming you've already done this, but with Firefox, and probably others, there are photo viewing settings in the Tools menu under Options-Content and Options-Applications. Under content, you want to check the "load images automatically" box, and make sure that this site did not become blocked under "exceptions".

Hi Paul,

I know what you're saying but why is this the only website, of the many that I use, that has this problem?

Try this:

First a photo that's uploaded to my server and embedded on this page by code:

Image

Now, a photo, (same one) "attached" to this site:

sopwith101.jpg

Note the slide bar on the right. This is how you'll always know which technique was used to display an image...

Now, try it both ways, logged in, and logged out. Then, you'll know what's the deal...

Good Morning Bill,

if I view your reply when I'm not logged in, I can view the first image OK. The second image doesn't display and shows as

sopwith101.jpg

This is then followed by the message 'You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this file'.

If I then log in, I can view the first image OK. The second image doesn't display and shows as a rectangular box (with a question mark inside it) and the following info

sopwith101.jpg (75.75KiB) viewed 17 times.

So on both logged in and out I can't see the second image.

I use many other websites where images links are used via the likes of PhotoBucket and have no problems with them, it's something specific to this website only.

I really appreciate your help on this one and hope we can find a resolution.

Hey Bill,

As a control to help troubleshoot this. If I am not logged in, I have the same screen image & text info that Reggie described. But then when I log in, I can see both photos like you predicted.

Pauli72:

Your's is doing what it's supposed to do...

Cameraman:

Your's is a shining example of the "cross platform inconsistancy" that we experience in the web development area daily. You should see some the conflicts we get ourselves into here over this issue. Either your browser simply doesn't like "attached" images, or you've got something turned off. It's undoubtedly a security device in your browser designed to keep out malware... But, we don't support either Microsoft, or Apple here, so I don't even know where the on/off switch is on a MAC... (Ubuntu LINUX is the only legal software on our network...)

Bottom line, is the system is doing exactly what it was designed to do...

How about trying a different browser? If using IE try Firefox or vice versa!

That's what I was getting at in my post before. I imagine he looked at the browser settings mentioned, but there are a few simple things to check, if not.

Hi Guys n Gals,

I use BrowserPlus, so I've reported the matter to them and I'll see what they say.

Thanks for your great assistance.

I have both Firefox and IE. There have been problems, such as McAfee updates crashing one or the other from time to time, (back when I had it) as well as Outlook. The same goes for problems with one of the two, due to their own problematic updates, etc. I would have at least two browsers set up, even if you use only one, just to see what the other does with the issue. It should be pretty simple to download Firefox, if you haven't already.

Hi Bill,

I tried Firefox on a previous system and it caused absolute chaos, so I've kept away from it ever since.

I'll wait until I hear from BrowserPlus before I do anything else.
