where did you get that kit?

Looks awesome!
The P-38 is arguably the best... Forget that, it is THE BEST fighter of world war two, and is epically AWESOME!

There might be more interest in the Shuttle for the next few months, there will be a lot of publicity for the last flight. Saying that, I'm sure tooling up again would be a significant cost...

Great model, David!

I bought a few of these kits on ebay last year, they are pretty cheap. I dont think I paid over 10 bucks for any of the kits.

I remember seeing a space shuttle model like this one when I was 12 or so in a long since dissapeared Model shop in Nottingham called Beaties.. It could well have been the Guillows one then I suppose...

In any case it was well beyound my pocket and paper round money, so I bought an all sheet Keil Kraft EezeBilt Hurricane instead.

I asked the man behind the counter about the model, thinking that maybe it would be a good pitch for a Christmas present. He said:

"Forget it sonny - Go and build your Hurricane it might just fly if you do a good job of it"........ "That thing is too relaistic - it flies like a brick, just like the real thing!"

I think it is sad that the shuttle will finish. Is it me or do things seem to be going Backwards? For us Brits it was the last flight of Concorde, do you guys feel the same about the shuttle? What is it's replacement?

I've always liked the space shuttle and I think its sad the program is about to end, and I think the Space x Falcon 9 might be the shuttle's replacement sometime in the future.

Last summer I went to advanced space academy (space camp for 15 and up i think) in Huntsville. We got to do a shuttle simulator. I gained a new respect for astronauts and mission control, plus the dream to work for NASA as an astronaut or an aerosapce engineer. 8)

Nice model by the way

Tell us more!

Ground or Flight crew?

They had nothing like that camp when I was a kid, and I always regretted being born too soon!

It was at the US Space and Rocket center (They also have "Aviation Challenge" which is more about being a fighter pilot). In Advanced Acedemy you can choose betwen pilot or Mission specialist. I chose pilot of course, cause ya' get to fly the shuttle and do all the cool jobs in mission control (Mission specialists do EVAs). The simulator is very nice, Full scale shuttle cockpit and flight deck.
They have a nice mission control set up too. We rotated out positions in the shuttle and on the ground to see what we liked best. For the EDM (extended duration mission), I was the Flight director in mission control

other than that we got to do simulators, learn all sorts of stuff about the shuttle and its systems, about the history of space flight, do several engineering challenges such as building a model rocket to loft an egg (mine flew the best :D), building a heat shield, and all other sorts of other neat stuff!

Outstanding, man!

I know it sounds weird, but I'm glad you got to do all that. Must have been amazing!

looks like you are quite experienced. im probably too young to know for sure, but i was looking for some kind of areonoughtical school... maybe a few years in the USAF... who knows. but with the skills that everyone says i have, i guess i should at least be thinking about it for later...

If you're stil in H.S. keep them grades up there, The schools you are talking about are way spendy. University of North Dakota has one of the best Aeronautique and aerospace programs available to civilians. As always they are quite critical in their exceptance standards. So,keep your nose clean.
