Gas engine

Postby Supercubber95 » Tue May 24, 2011 2:28 pm

I found a old gas engine in an old box out in the shop. Can you tell from the pictures here: http://pipercessnahangar.shutterfly.com/pictures/26 if it is in good enough shape to run, and what brand and size it is? Thanks!

Cox .049 golden bee, spring starter.
it seems to be rusted up, so it would be unwise to run it.
you can always get a new one, theyre pretty cheap nowadays

get some fuel and soak the entire motor in it. just spray it on, let it sit, do it some more.

after you get the prop shaft turning freely, (just keep working it) put some gas in the tank, close, then open the needle 4 turns, hook up a battery, prime it, (a little squirt of fuel in the cylinder opening) and pop it a few times... It might even start, you don't know...

Let me know what happens and we'll go from there...

I was looking on that sight myself and was wondering, Do you have to buy all the parts and put the engine together yourself?

Thanks Bill! Couple a questions-where do I get the fuel to run it, and where do I get the jumper cables to start it? Thanks.

You need a LHS... (Local Hobby Shop)...

BUT...

That don't look like a coin minuted in the good ole U S of A...

So... Is the Canadian or UK?

first of all You should get some spare parts as you can get them really cheap nowadays, the only one you will want to stay away from is the new fuel-tank. It has only got a filler tube, fuel-tankvent is a hole!
You can also not clean out rust as it is a chemical reaction, that can´t be stopped.

you´ll want to run these engines with 35%nitro, 10%synthetic oil, 10% castor oil & the rest methyl alchohol ( a.k.a methanol)
works for me! :D

you actually might be able to clean it if you get some good old fuel in there. dont use gasoline. use glow fuel. i use hobico racing fuel. 25% nitro content. you dont want more, otherwise it burns way too fast. you want ebtween 20%-25% is the best i would say. work on cleaning that engine. might want to get a couple spare props as well. get a glow head clip for it, and a 1.5 VOLT vattery. remember 1.5 volt is a pretty small charge, so keep that in mind. i use a big one, with screw clips on it that allowe me to attach my glow clip on it. get that engine clean, get those suplies, then we will talk again. also get a cox wrench for that engine. they come in handy, as they have basically all the tools you will need for any adjustments in the field.

So will this clip work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0582487596 I know absolutely nothing about these things. Where can I get 35%nitro, 10%synthetic oil, 10% castor oil fuel online? Thanks :? :?
