Comet kits

Postby Supercubber95 » Mon Jun 20, 2011 11:29 am

Does anybody know where I can find the old Comet kits? I am interested in buying a P-47, if someone knows where to find one. Thanks!

All the plans are online if you join Yahoo groups. There are 2 groups dedicated to Comet models and in the files section they have the plans and parts. All the kits came with printed balsa, too small of a propeller, awesome rubber and heavy wheels. Most kits did not come with vacuum formed parts such as details, cowling or canopies. Some of the P-47 kits actually came with a vacuum formed canopy, and others you had to cut it out of a pattern and glue it to shape. So if you find one on Ebay, make sure it has the canopy. Sometimes if the kit is new enough, the wood is awesome and you can just use the kit wood. Also the 25 inch version is the only one I knew of when I was a kid, but Comet also made a 18 inch version before my time. I built the 25 inch version and she flew great. Easy fast build.

Awesome! They look like fantastic kits. I found the P-47 plans at Hip Pocket Aeronautics. What do you use for covering on your models, scigs? I wanted Esaki or whatever that stuff is but found out that I don't want to pay that much for it. Man, what I would give for a LHS!!! Easy built stuff don't seem to hot either, after the reviews I read. So I don't know. The one I'm wondering about is going to be fr display.

I have an old ercoupe kit from comet...
scigs, do you have a build thread for yours?
The P-38 is arguably the best... Forget that, it is THE BEST fighter of world war two, and is epically AWESOME!

I did a build thread on Freeflight forums at RCgroups.com. I use Esaki most of the time but I also use Domestic. This is a Guillows forum so I do feel bad posting other builds here, but I do build other models and post them in other groups. I figure since Guillows bought Comet, it should be ok, but still I will limit my Comet threads here. Out of all the domestic tissues I have tried, Easybuilt and Peck Polymers has been the best for colors and Guillows white is pretty good.

I forgot to ask though-is the Easy Built tissue tougher/thicker than Walmart tissue? Or is there not much difference.

To tell you the truth I have not tried that tissue or any store tissue. I am sure it is all the same thing, but I don't want to take any chances so I stick with what I know works. I know people have tried regular craft tissue some with great results and some with poor results.

Yeah, I've built most of my planes with walmart junk  ... BEFORE I heard about *airplane tissue*. Even that blue and yellow P-51 was walmart trash. It is one of my best fliers though. It is so thin it is encredibly easy to screw up, so if Easy Built is sorta not much better, I might wanta go with Esaki.

Scigs...

All great looking models...looks like the P-51 and the Spit were painted?

Love the flying shots of each.
