First Guillows kit you ever built

In 1966 I built the 500 series FW 190. I knew nothing about Balsa wood models that fly. I was 15 years old. The first thing I noticed was I could not use plastic testers model glue for wood models. Some how I got the frame built, and covered. Took it out in a field, wound it up, launched it. The plane stood on its tail, stalled, crashed. I dont remember when I noticed the ballance her marks on the plans, most likely a few planes after that one. Since then, I've built many free flights, radio controls, and now park fliers. The 60's was the most fun with all the gas free flights....
Keep the fun in it......

Say, stuff can be even cheaper--use a coupon. Recently, I bought xtra large Elmer's brand half inch thick foam board using 40% off news coupon from craft store chain for less than $4! Wow, such a deal! Speaking of that price area, I recall 1965, our then (1 of 2) LHS store owners bragged about a plane he got, much better he felt than Comet...I bought only one he had in stock. It was Guillows Japanese Zero. (Basically same looking box as today.) Think it was $4.95 (?) and he knocked 20% off yet.

Assembled in spare time a couple weeks. Wow.. was easy and fun to build, looked great, better than Comet "stuff" I wrestled with at times, and I never cared for those so called prefabs. I said, ahh Zero maybe still too heavy to fly as-is on rubber, and short nose needed lot of weight, a modifcation changed appearance too much, so I kept it for scale display sans covering. The thing lasted mounted on a wall for 3 decades, seriously, and then I sold it at a yard sale (bad move) for a couple bucks, seller and buyer were both happy, then anyway. Hey, anybody recall if that plane sold for like 5 bucks or was it $9.95...let me know if you remember. Thanks

My first Guillow's kit was the Fokker D-8. Bought it at some candy store, when I was about 10 years old. Never flew but it got alot of taxing time on the basement floor. I am amased now that I even finished it.

My first Guillow's kit was the Fokker DR1 Triplane back in 1969. I really liked the scale looks. A little on the heavy side but I was mostly building for display back then. The Rumpler C5 was soon to follow.
