Why I joined this forum

Postby vloustalot » Tue Sep 27, 2011 7:14 pm

I joined this forum for several reasons. One, I like Guillow's kits; bad wood and all. I cut my teeth on Comet and Guillow model kits in the early fifties. Not many of them flew too well, but I had a geat time building them and showing them off. I guess they were more static than flying as they spent more time crashing than in the air.

The second reason I joined this forum was to re-learn my hobby. I had been away from the hobby for a long time. I started back to building ( and attempting to fly) stick and tissue models around 2002. There are seveal other great forums out there, but this is the only one that doesn't constantly bash Guillow. If it hadn't been for this company back in the fifties, I may not have gotten the bug. I know that Guillow got me back into the hobby.

The other forums I mentioned in the previous paragraph are great sources of modeling info, as is this one. Mr. Duckett builds some great static models. I wish I had his skills. Others on this forum build some geat flying models, and I wish I had their skills. I haven't posted my models here because I didn't deem them to be good enough to "show off". I lurk more than I post because I don't know that I have skills that would benefit others. I am not afraid of criticism; in fact, I would welcome constructive criticism. My skin is not so thin as to take umbage at the comments of others pointing out my mistakes and not praising me for what I did right. The right stuff doesn't need correcting; the wrong stuff does.

I have seen other forums almost get torn apart because several members have had word duels. Please don't let that happen here. I love to lurk and dribble at the mouth at the beautiful planes I have seen on this forum. I love to try and duplicate what I have seen. The information I have received from this forum has been invaluable. Let's bury the hachets (and not in each others' heads) and get on with building and sharing info.
My planes don't crash; they just land hard

I agree, Lessons need to be learnt. I have cotacted Mark and suggested that things have got out of hand (due to me as much as anyone else). I have suggested that the threads are removed and we all move on.....

Thanks for your level headed opinion.

Just a bit of what we Brits call "argy bargy"

Nothing serious just some differences of opinion, and clashes of personalities
