I made about 20 mistakes on my Hellcat and it's not even done yet.

I just found a photo of a man who saw one too many upside down stars on model airplanes.

I never thought I would see the day building a model airplane would stir up controversy. :( :?: Ya'll take a chill pill and let people do what they want with their model.

yeah, cuz they are going to do whatever with their model anyway, and more often than not there is NO talking them out of it, no matter how crazy, foolish, stupid or just plain wrong... they just have to figure it out for themselves sometimes. And there is NOTHING wrong with that. It is part of the learning curve.

You should try plastic modelers, some of them take things WAY too seriously.

Donno who you are asking?

I was close but never signed on the dotted line for a number of complexe reason.

Nevertheless, this isn't the military, it's modeling so I don't know what could possibly apply. No disrespect intended.

What is odd to me is that David posted examples of models built by various people that all show a common issue of incorrect insignia location or orientation no one says jack about the images till I mention something about the errors. Leads one to think that most people didn't realize errors were staring them in the face, which is fine if you are into quilting.

Now why in the heck is that little dialog between David and I such a fuel for so many messages asking us to stop talking about stars? Have I critiqued anyone's stars since the initial posting of the Hellcat incident of 2011? Have I told any of you I think less of you because you posted a picture of an inaccurate model? David and I like to talk about accurately modeling of aircraft so please let us do so if we like. I think you are all pretty decent people, but do allow differences of opinion to be expressed and discussed freely.

To answer David's question, yes.

I believe everyone may have noticed the insignia in the photos but no one could really understand why David was posting them. So nobody answered. You made it very clear how you felt, which I admire to a certain degree. I like those who speak their minds. No bull... It's a good thing. That in turn caused the uproar.

P.s. That album cover is not only perfect for this discussion but a damn good record lurks inside of it.

Thanks David, but my service pales in comparison to yours. Even if I had been serving during a war my job would be the same, lay low and wait for orders from the CIC to wipe a country off the face of the planet.

She pulled into the barn and shortly after I showed up and stayed about 4.5 years. Thankfully few markings to trip up the novice modeler.

Here are some of my early designs and builds when I was 12 or 13 years old.

Early Designs

Postby rayd » Fri Sep 30, 2011 9:56 pm

Yo, scigs30, that yellow one looks kinda like a Fairchild 24. Yes, no, maybe? Early teens eh. Ok here's one, moreso one of those "poor stories"... couldn't affored dime models, but once I think, I was gifted with a solid balsa plane (no, certainly not Strombecker). They were primo. Plastics were not out yet. Think the solid balsa was a nickel or dime, as a some gift.

So, I'm like 9 or so wanting to be an ace of course, and I start carving this thing using dad's Gillette blades but the body turned out looking like a carrot or Ginsing root, just not right. It shortened my interest in solids. Next up, a freebie plan obtained of a high winger. No money for supplies, but old fashioned mucelage glue always around, toothpicks, wax paper, and mom's straight pins.

I read "Boys Life" in school library. Got ideas but had no balsa. Aha! Toothpicks. (A born genius I tell ya.) Don't recall details but I wound up making a "toothpick model" and covered it with wax paper. I treasured it for a week and proudly showed it off. Ok, time to fly (hand powered). It travelled about a yard, no not backyard, 3 feet..then crashed returning to many toothpicks. I didn't cry, but my dad bought me a 10 cent Guillow's glider at corner candy store. He made me happy.
