Ok Alex No worries, it happens to be best of us.....

As far as timing as concerned we'll see how many sign up over a period of say 1 month. Then we'll do a "go, no-go for launch" type thing.

We can take our time over this, it is not a panic driven thing....

I have the plans of the Cessna 180. It was my last build, over 6 months ago. After checking the plans, the nose cone is the only formed plastic, maybe I can make one. I am located in Bangalore, India, kits are very difficult to get out here. Shipping plus import duties make it expensive. Import restrictions - the "Box Made in China" raises hackles of the Customs guys I depend on friends coming in from US/UK to get kits. Always ready to get down on my knees and beg, please, pretty please

May I join this build group?

Yes no problem, no begging required! My company deals with imports into India (and 80 odd more countries) so I appreciate your issue.

Obviously building from the kit, we will cover things that you won't need to do and vice versa.

Just hop on and off at the right moments...

Seems that there are several people that might join if this idea of yours would be expanded to include the #602 Super Cub as well as the #601 Cessna 180. They appear to be a very similar build from the previous build threads. Since this is your idea, what do you think?

Having hung around this forum for a while I noticed that so many folks get disheartened when their birds won't fly, then they don't carry on with the hobby. Sometimes I think that it is because they go for the low winged warbirds, which are not ideal to start with. The 180 is a nice stable high winger.

I think that he was looking for a high wing, easier to get flying model, like the 180 or Cub. The will build similar, and would also trim and fly similar. Low wings just don't trim and fly the same.

This kit started it all for me...

I had been tinkering with plastics for a while, cars and a couple planes, then one day my dad and I went to the hobby shop and he bought me this kit(after some begging on my part). I was probably 11 or 12, and I built it and it flew!! I was enamored with this new concept. I don't know if dad regretted it or not but I started building all manner of these kits, became obsessed with airplanes, dabbled in RC, went to college to learn how to build airplanes, graduated into the worst job market in the US since ever, so I don't work in that field currently, but after several years off I picked up these old rubber kits again. It's been a while since I've been around this forum, but I would love to build this kit again! sign me up!

Also, one other thing: I found that Hobby Lobby, a craft/home decor superstore carries a small variety of Guillow's kits, and they have a 40% off coupon available online. The selection is small, but usually they have 2 or 3 of the 600/900 series, 2 300 series, 2 or 3 500 series, and 2 of either the 200 or 400 series. Great way to pick up kits cheap. I got two of the laser cut 400 series for $24 each

This is great stuff I'm really glad! It seems to have created a bit of a Buzz all round! .

I think if we can we'll try and stick with the 180 if we can mainly because of the reason that it is a good first model due to the high wing layout. The low wingers are tricky to trim at best, they are far from ideal as first models and their construction is significantly different from the 180

I've no objections to folk building along with the Cub, I don't want to exclude anyone. However It might be best to run that on a sepaerate thread though otherwise it could be a little confusing (especially later on if it gets used for future newbies). We won't be starting for a while, so those that need to save up or sneak money out from their Wives and partners purses to buy a 180 kit have plenty of time! Early Christmas present maybe?

If people wanted to build The Cub they could be tacked onto either my (old) Cub thread or ADW's newer one, or a brand new one started.......

One thing just sprang to mind......... Scigs if you are out there, why don't you do the Cub? We could have two groups and a bit of healthy competition?

I have been reading the threads on this board for a while. Your thread about the group build got me excited, so much to the point that I actually registered as a user. I have not built a balsa plane since 1972. So yes I am in as long as it is after the 1st of the year.
