David...yes, my error, not a PBY...glanced too quickly, hmm, some spotter I'd make eh?
Yes, I think the 800 series in general is tough overall, and somebody elsewhere had indicated the same chores with the B-25. Listen, on Phugoids build, my item just came in. Has some distressed pieces and I'll call Guillows tomorrow, but the thing is really quite magnificently designed for newbies, maybe even sharp pre-teens and teens. I'm saddened at times though when i'm outdoors out front when school lets out, hearing foul language, kids crossing street while on cell phones or playing with Blackberry, ipods, whatever gadgets. I wonder just how many would be interested if I handed a plane to 'em gratis. Might it be stepped on? I apologize for going off thread a bit, but i think this is important.
Point is, it may be up to us to try and teach kids somehow. I know local boy scout guy practically pleads for new members. So much has changed. I'm a big enthusiast from yesteryear wanting to get back into hobby, but stores have not helped....you guys have. But, seeing work from eg Dave, Bill, Andrew, Steve, Arnold and many others, and decades back I wasn't so shabby either...so we done good, as we say here. But maybe it's up to us, I don't know exactly how, but there's enough talent here and a firm like Guillows, to try and interest youngsters. Or maybe this isn't for kids anymore? This sounds pessimistic, but could be a heads up for us to try and get a kid interested. Heck, in returning, I had problems with..of all things, glue! I saw in the Cessna instructions glue like Testors, and dope (huh? now? here?) Ain't gonna cut it with such supplies. You guys perform artistry, and I'll catch up time permitting...let's somehow try to get some young folk in on this. Maybe teach a class at a VFW hall, boy scouts, cable TV access, high school...a hands on experience, like the build here. Man, I'd love to be around to see something approach what the artists here created, built by a youngster.
