David...looks great! What did you use to cover that gem?

Say, interestingly (or not) i punched in DC-3 and C-47 on this new board. It gave zero posts..????

I also see we have a salesman messing up our new board. Hope its not the start of what we don't want.

Ok, thanks for the pix...and any advice you can give. Thanks much. Ray

I'm guessing he added a bunch of wood and then covered with heavy grade silk span. I once built the dc but never finished. This was some years ago, and I didn't know back then what I know now. I believe I got around to painting... Dont remember completing the fuse though. I did mess up on the dihedral. You'll notice the dihedral on this one is sort of like the dihedral on the super cub.95 and those series. can't remember exactly. I think you should go for it ray

Yeah David, I see..stringers galore, but from the photos, it looks practically seamless. A work of art, and to the others also. It's gonna take me awhile trying to catch up. Say, nice PBY next to it. The better half was cheerful yesterday ordering up the B25 for me as a gift. Sweet gesture..I'll have to build...but gotta get up to speed. Am doing below par scratch build work for practice, have a few small Guillows stacked (stashed) but still waiting for that Cessna...need to pick up modern pointers, some of my techniques I think outdated.

I will follow Andrew's build for updated tips/supplies, along with info I see from you guys... the old methods/supplies not working for me that well now. Someday though, I will get that DC-3, destination...Shangri La. Gotta get movin' with the program, not getting younger. That guy on Amazon who often says in his reviews that this is a lost art is off base....it's is an art, updated maybe, but an art nevertheless, and certainly not lost. Good work..and I'm glad I returned to this fine hobby. Thanks to all for your help and tips. :) Ray

David...yes, my error, not a PBY...glanced too quickly, hmm, some spotter I'd make eh? Yes, I think the 800 series in general is tough overall, and somebody elsewhere had indicated the same chores with the B-25. Listen, on Phugoids build, my item just came in. Has some distressed pieces and I'll call Guillows tomorrow, but the thing is really quite magnificently designed for newbies, maybe even sharp pre-teens and teens. I'm saddened at times though when i'm outdoors out front when school lets out, hearing foul language, kids crossing street while on cell phones or playing with Blackberry, ipods, whatever gadgets. I wonder just how many would be interested if I handed a plane to 'em gratis. Might it be stepped on? I apologize for going off thread a bit, but i think this is important.

Point is, it may be up to us to try and teach kids somehow. I know local boy scout guy practically pleads for new members. So much has changed. I'm a big enthusiast from yesteryear wanting to get back into hobby, but stores have not helped....you guys have. But, seeing work from eg Dave, Bill, Andrew, Steve, Arnold and many others, and decades back I wasn't so shabby either...so we done good, as we say here. But maybe it's up to us, I don't know exactly how, but there's enough talent here and a firm like Guillows, to try and interest youngsters. Or maybe this isn't for kids anymore? This sounds pessimistic, but could be a heads up for us to try and get a kid interested. Heck, in returning, I had problems with..of all things, glue! I saw in the Cessna instructions glue like Testors, and dope (huh? now? here?) Ain't gonna cut it with such supplies. You guys perform artistry, and I'll catch up time permitting...let's somehow try to get some young folk in on this. Maybe teach a class at a VFW hall, boy scouts, cable TV access, high school...a hands on experience, like the build here. Man, I'd love to be around to see something approach what the artists here created, built by a youngster.
