The bellcrank looks better than the one i got. the one in the kit or???

whats the color pattern gunna be on yours?

I was going white all over, with a few neat red stripes here and there. maybe on top and side of the fuse, and running in the direction of the fuse on the other surfaces. not sure yet.

Thats some nice work Bill. Goodness im slow! i dont have half of that work done...

Carl Goldberg 1/2a bell crank kit, same as they've been providing
for a lot of years now. There used to be these hokey metal ones,
but that was back during the Civil War...

Maybe... But definately military...

Imagine that you're out of school, and have loads of cash and
credit cards in your pocket... And not much better to do than
build airplanes...

Movable ailerons are completely inapropo for a u-control plane, but the lines look good after it's covered... So build em, but build em "fixed."

Wang is getting there, be patient, Billy boy....

Image

Just glue in 3/32" spacers where the hinges would ordinarily go...

Image

Okay, back to the fuse and those fiddledy little mettal clippy dudes...

Image

And them danged convoluted landing gear that they want you to tie on with a piece of danged string....

Here is the landing gear. It was built per the plans with the string and everything, but i used CA to put a sheet of 1/32" balsa over the string. then, i wraped it all up in some masking tap. might add some balsa here and there, but it is looking pretty bullet proof.

Image

Bill, let me know how you do your nose gear.

I tried to illistrate this in a couple other of my builds, but i dont think anyone got it. this time, i have some pictures to go along.

when i have to put the parts up againts the plans to cut the notches, it makes more sense to me that the part goes on so the die cut side is facing up. instead, it is "upside down". i think this makes it harder to cut. this is how it is:

Image

this is how i think it should be:

Image

I whine about this because it is a lot easier to cut through the side with the die cut already started. IT also makes for a much cleaner cut when i cut through the side with the die cut already started.

Guillow's Cessna 172 Skyhawk Kit Number: 802
Wing Span: 36"
Scale: 1/12

Same as you, only no string, no 1/32" (I used 1/8") no CA, (I use yella glue) and no masking tape...

I trace the outline of the gear wire in ink onto the 1/8" stock, and then cut a groove in the face of the part removing the ink. Fill the groove with yella glue, and clamp it up. Watch the glue dry, then install, then watch the glue dry some more...

Firewallage. Even tho this kit came with real plywood parts, not the new fangled laytex stuff, I'm making a 1/4" ply firewall that will simply last longer, work better, and be very attractive to airplanes of the opposite persuasion...

Image

Alex, are you making the "break away" wing struts, or... I would do it another way, but I've done this before, and know that they work as advertised if built according to the plan... soooo....

As I don't build to fly, (I am not experianced enough yet ) I only wish that I had made it with all balsa, to get a finish like the Secorsky R6B/V.
Allways willing to learn.

Barie, how many coats of dope did you use on yours? And how much paint? First, for static, I use three generous but smooth coats of dope. Also, I would encourage you to play around with your paint. I really like the semi gloss and glossier finishes. I think I used this on my hellcat. Don't be afraid to use some serious paint on your static build. With a good amount of sealing, you can get a better finish
