As you have pointed out, there is no "for sale" section and the moderator obvious does not care to over-legislate this forum. It looks like we the people still get to buy and sell freely due to our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Here's a question. Can someone possibly fix the title of this thread? I know it sounds picky but man it's irritating to see the misspelled title every time someone wants to point out another overpriced kit on ebay.
Here's another suggestion for those who want to build this model. If Guillow's has discontinued this kit, maybe they'd allow the plan to be circulated freely so people can scratch build it and not have to fall prey to the gougers on ebay. The cost of materials would be somewhere between $20 to $30 depending on where you bought them (that's on the high side, being a display model cheap domestic tissue and crappy balsa will get the job done). It's a shame that in this present economy as soon as someone says "discontinued" people feel something is suddenly worth 3 to 4 times it's original value.

Done with my rant.

Guillow's did give "permission" to distribute the plan to us...

They gave to the AMA, who charge 50 bucks a copy for it.

Ask me how I know...

We all know the AMA doesn't get enough money out of as it is. Oh well, I'm glad I'm not interested in it. Sorry for those who are.

I recently paid $51 + s/h for a set of 3 sheets of single sided plans, two of them being close to 3'x3' and the third sheet about half that size. There is no kit or large volume demand for the plans I ordered so someone had to locate the plans I wanted, print them, trim the paper, them package and mail them to me. I would have preferred to pay less, but that's a pretty standard price and it wasn't like I could just pick up the plans anywhere I pleased. If you look at Guillow's prices for the B-17 plans, cardstock, and the other materials that the AMA provides with its plans, I think you'll see that even mass printed plans would cost $25 or so. If I was looking for plans so I could scratch build a B-29 I would probably get them elsewhere and with an eye towards accuracy rather than simplified to suite masses of kit assemblers.

I've purchased a sealed in plastic Enoya Gay kit for not much more than the set of plans from the AMA and I've also sold one for more than the opening bid of the kit mentioned above. Bargains are out there, but they won't come to you in your easy chair, you have to work at it and be ready to close the deal the moment you see an opportunity. Then if you've used the plans in that kit to scratch your own plane and an opportunity presents its self to sell to a fool who is easily parted from his money, go for it then sit back and count your profits.

Life is too short to bemoan that which you cannot control. Learn to adapt, overcome, and move on.

Thank you for the wise words. God knows I was losing sleep over it. I really was only looking for someone to at least spell Enola Gay correctly.

mr duckett
why do you think i posted where to get a B-17 in a B-29 thread?
my point was going to be just buy the regular Guillows kit instead of
'Enola Gay' version from resellers.
oops. B-17 and B-29 two different planes.
it looks like 'Enola Gay' WAS Guillows regular version.
they just slapped that on box.

like Rosanne Danna Danna. 'Never Mind!

dave
i think when they bring back the B 29 it's a good idea to leave off the Enola Gay stuff.
Japan is our ally now.
i don't know about paying $50 for plans when whole large scale kits
are $90 at Megahobby, unless you have your own balsa grove on the farm there.
what's this AMA?

The AMA has reduced the prices of its plans and the plans for the bomber that flattened Hiroshima and helped end the war while my grandfather was in a transport ship on his way to be in the first wave of an invasion force is now $33. In addition, you can also get a second set for 50% if you like. Not a bad deal for those of us who know where to buy balsa.

Why would I pay $90?

If I added up what I paid for all of the in-production 2000 series kits it might be $90.
