CloudBuster and Flyboy - an evolutionary experience.

Yesterday, we had a mishap with the AirBoy wing #2. It accidentally flew into the tip of the swing pole, which in turn sliced off the wing-tip.

Allow me to introduce, Droop Snoot. It is a profile 'swinger' that was built in June of 2010 and adopted into the CloudBuster/AirBoy family. The wings and tail were traced from the outlines of the Frank Zaic designed rubber model called the Hawk. The fuselage is an original built up profile. Wing span about 20 inches.

It is an excellent flyer and plays well with the CloudBuster and AirBoy. The DS wing is very similar to reversed CloudBuster wing.

Late yesterday afternoon, It was kinda breezy with a lot of clouds. A fine day for some flying in interesting conditions. First we flew the modified Droop Snoot fuselage mated to the FlyBoy wing. Here framed by a cloud background.

The combination of the DS fuselage and FlyBoy wing are a good flying model in this kind of unsettled weather.

Another excellent rough weather flier is the Super CloudBuster fuselage mated to the Droop Snoot wing. It is a very fast and stable flying model and punches thru the variable breezes with ease. A couple of pics of the model against some dark threatening clouds.

BTW, the FlyBoy wing at the top of the page is now repaired. It is the middle wing.

Yesterday, was chilly but sunny day good for flying so we were able to make some good flights with the CloudBuster/FlyBoy hybrids.

Today, the 25th was very rainy in the AM. The afternoon was overcast and windy, but flyable.

After another rainy morning, the afternoon improved enough for a nice flying session and we were able to capture this sequence of pics.

This modification of the CloudBuster series has proven to be such a reliable and consistent all weather flyer, that we are planning to draw up some plans and build some more versions of it.

After a couple of busy weeks of domestic activities and a recent heavy rain we were able to have a flying session this afternoon.

First we flew the Cloudbuster 2 mated with a Flyboy wing. The wing seems to be a bit warped and doesn't fly very well. Upon meeting a bad gust of air it kinda stalled out and crashed into the tool shed, causing damage to the wing.

The broken Flyboy wing is repaired and ready for cover. The repair was easy enough, just fit the broken ends together and liberally apply some Duco.

Over the past weekend we had frontal passage which brought to us some beautiful clear weather so we decided to take advantage of it and fly a couple of our favorite swingers. First our old reliable CloudBuster #1.

This old model is still flys well.

We also flew the 'super Cloudbuster' mated with the DS wing. This model is a very stable and predictable flyer.

This series of 3 pix are not cropped and are reduced to the same size. They were all shot at the same distance setting on the camera. This shows how the models distance from the center of the flying circle can be controlled by manipulating the position of the swing pole. In the first pic the model is at the farthest distance from the center of the flying circle. By bringing the tip of the swing pole past the vertical and behind one's back the model comes in closer to center of the circle.

The tail of the super-Cloudbuster was damaged during a recent flight.
