Good afternoon Guys n Gals,

well I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself. I discovered this website whilst searching for scale model DHC-2 Beavers and normally I build the plastic kits and currently have a stash of around 20 of the rascals.

However I've been sauntering through the threads and like the feeling of the place, so I'd better get myself down to my LMS and see if they've got the Beaver in stock.

Many years ago I bought the DHC-1 Chipmunk kit from Guillows, which has patiently sat in the loft and I reckon would be a reasonable starter kit, before I tackle the Beaver.

So prepare yourselves for many stupid questions!

Any comments, suggestions etc would be most appreciated.

Regards

Hi Reggie,
Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of balsa model airplanes. Ask away with the questions.
I think the DHC-1 kit would be a decent one to get acquainted with modeling techniques.

Hello, are you cameraman on Seawings.uk? I'm Bill G over there, if so.
I've started on the Beaver build, and it's a lovely little kit. As I generally scratch build, the laser cut Beaver goes together so easily it's like building with Lego blocks. Most of the stringers could be pushed into the former notches for perfect fit and would stay in place while gluing, without having to hold the precise position as I'm used to with die-cut or hand cut parts.

The Chipmunk is also a nice build. If you get one with reasonably light sheet wood, they can end up as the lightest in their size range of Guillows kits, and fly well as rubber powered planes. The built-up construction goes together easily. In all honesty however, I would say that the Beaver assembles as easily as the Chipmunk.

Hi Bill G,

yep it sure is matey.

Nice to see you over here and I'm looking forward to watching your Beaver build.

I reckon I may go straight for a Beaver then and ask questions during the build then!

I would report it. I thought is was highly disrespectful and disgusting for that guy to spam your thread, especially being one where you introduced yourself to us.

He came back one day later, probably to see if his post was removed, and hasn't been back since. Really interested in model building?
