Hi Grump,
I'm not sure how Deckape secures his wheels, but I've had great success buy using a 2 part steel epoxy called
J.B. Weld.
If you don't have experience with a solder iron, this product is very inexpensive ($2.50), really easy to use, and you don't run the risk of damaging your landing gear or wheels with heat or hot beads of solder. Once it cures, it's just as strong as a steel weld. You can buy it at any hardware, auto parts, or big box store.
1. Put your hub/tire on the painted and finished landing gear axle.
2. Put on a small metal washer, or even a scratch made, thin plastic washer.
3. Combine very small (and equal) amounts of both the A tube and B tube of
J.B. Weld. Mix very, very well with a toothpick.
4. Apply a
small bead onto the tip of the axle and smooth & shape accordingly. (don't get any on wheel, or your fingers) It's almost like sculpting clay, and really easy to make hub ends look very realistic.
5. Let it cure a few hours before taxiing on the runway
, or painting.
