Hi Guys,
I'm Mitch. I joined last year and said "Hello" but only recently started to post items and topics of my own. It seems I generated some interest in what I do... so I am adding a few pics here and hopefully answer some questions so my topics can stay focused on Model Airplanes.
I work in the US Merchant Marine as a Mate and generally work on 3 sister ships that travel from Tacoma to Alaska. I just got home 12 days ago but have been working almost every day. I fill in as Dispatcher at our Union Hall as our Dispatcher was on vacation, this was planned. I have also been working as "Night Mate"... when a ship comes in the Mates get a rest and I go down...
I went to work last night...
When I got aboard I asked the Able Seaman at the Gangway to take a pic of me...
I went to the Bridge to sign the Log and here is a view from the Bridge... There were 4 gangs of Longshoreman working...
A room was open for a new crewmember so I took a pic... This is the same as the room I would have... except there would b a model airplane on the desk...
No one complains about the smell of glue and everyone enjoys to see my completed models. I work with white glue in my room and when its time to dope, I wait until the ship is in port and do that on the Bridge with the fans on and the doors open. After about a month on the ship I bring a model home and then it was just about every trip after that would have a finished model.
Mitch
