Be careful when using one of these. If you do not find a way to make the hook captive, it can pull right out of the chuck and head straight for the model at a high velocity. You definitely do not want a human stooge holding the plane. A long time ago, there was an article in some magazine about drilling a hole in the side of the chuck to allow a fail safe way to capture the hook.

I'll need to make a hook for it but that's no big deal... I'll miss the 15:1 wind ratio, but I could feel I was pushing that winder to it's limits already... This drill is about 4:1 ratio and it will be alot easier to turn the crank, than wear out my poor finger! I see guys on YouTube using a power drill but I do not want to do that yet. I want to have the feel for it! There models are bigger, and I understand that although these models have a good compresion strength, they do have limits and they are very fragile in certain respects.

I will install tan rubber when I get my lube from SIG, until then I will use the Guillows Grey, with Armor-All as my lube.

How does this look:

I have my chores done so I will be off to the field with the Spitfire... I'll have the P51 and FW to play with too! :D

PS a note on the P38 I have the Guillows kit and plan to build that one this winter... the only one I saw on youtube was the "other company" that one only has a 30 in ws and the Guillow kit is 1/16 scale with a 40 in ws... I can fly that against my 36"ws Ta-152! :P

I like that a LOT!. I think I will go to a flea market this weekend. That kind of drill looks like it would be very easy to use as a winder. Not as fast, but I bet a lot more comfortable on the hands.

The addition of the canopy & spinner hubs in flight should look very cool! 8)

Look forward to seeing the dogfight pictures/video Mitch.
