landing gear for 1000 series p47

i am building a 1000 series p47; i am at the stage of attempting to build the retractable landing gear; any suggestion on the tools required and the techniques to use to make the intricate sharp bends;

A good quality heavy duty pair of needle nose plyers that don't wiggle. (the jaws always line up evenly) They usually also have a wire snip built right into them. Craftsman from Sears is good.

Make sure to look at that "3 side view" of the wire part on the Guillow's blueprint a few times before starting. Get a picture of it in your head before starting.

Watch your eyes when clipping the heavier wire. Especially the small pieces. That stuff will FLY & ricochet like schrapnel.

Needle nose pliers and one regular pliers usually gets the job done.

This isn't a just a bunch of yapping, safety, blah , blah.
Wear a pair of safety glasses or even regular prescription glasses will work.

I usually wrap a piece of tape around the long, free end of the wire I'm snipping or bending. That free end will poke you.
And I"ll second what Pauli said, that little short end you clip off, will go flying.

I actually shot a clipping of wire through my Guillows P47 wing, while hanging on display a few feet above the workbench. The plane has a new wing with ailerons now, not built because of the wire clipping of course.

An amen to the safety procedures and what you really need is conformity of the pieces, if you partially make your bends and compare them as you go you can straighten and adjust your bend rather than making a full bend all at once. Abig pair of lineman pliers works good and a vise grips also prevents slippage as you make your bends. Good luck.
