This thing was going to be one color, OD Green period. But my bubbas at Hobby Lobby had no OD Green paint... So, Light Earth and Medium Green...

When you build the 1000 series kits for U-Control, they tell you not to use the cockpit cardstock, as it gets in the way of the bellcrank. Not particularly satisfying, so I cut it down a bit... I then cut the pilots off just below the elboes and we shall see what we shall see...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

How long does it fly? I used to get dizzy as a kid. My first plane probably made one or two circles before I crashed it... Then I learned keep your wrist and arm ridgid. Little movements, translate better. Is that right? The last U control I had I was able to run it out of fuel... seemed like it ran a long time!

About 3 minutes, on an .051 with integral fuel tank...

I used to get dizzy as a kid. My first plane probably made one or two circles before I crashed it... Then I learned keep your wrist and arm ridgid. Little movements, translate better. Is that right?

If I don't fly for a week or so, I too get dizzy on the first couple of flights. Not so bad it'd make you fall down, but you notice. If you fly ten tanks or so a day however, your inner ear gets used to it, and the problem goes away. They spun the astronauts all around all the time for a reason... When we teach new guys to fly U-Control we instruct them to keep a stiff arm, and raise and lower the fist to control. NO WRIST... I fly with just my fingertips touching the handle, with the controller between my belt buckle and chest...

The last U control I had I was able to run it out of fuel... seemed like it ran a long time!

We used to fly a home made biplane that had too much wing and a way too big gas tank. You had to give it full down control input to get it to fly level. It flew 35 minutes, with my son and I taking shifts... Wait for the plane to go by, then sprint for the center of the circle, take the hand off from the kid, and fly for awhile, then do it again... Good times... He's all growed up now...

You say he's all grown up now... When people see my models and ask me how old I am I simply say "10". I do believe that is when I built mt first Guillow kit 100 series Fokker D-8.

That's alot of flying... My first U control was a .049 King Cobra with underwing rockets that were spring loaded, and would fire if I pulled another cord... NEVER got that far... The model was pretty durable though. Latter I had a small black Albatros made by Cox, I think it had a .020 engine. I got better with that one. Then I installed a .049 engine in a Guillows 400 series Focke Wulf... never flew it... It's still in the basement of my Dad's house...

Next time I visit I should take a picture of that... I probably built it when I was 14 y/o.

Nice job on the Banshee Bill. That cockpit trick looked like it worked great. With the canopy on, you can't even tell.

Hey, as far as flying U-control goes, have you ever tried Dramamine if you haven't flown in a while? Just to help get back in the.... 'swing of things'...nyuck-nyuck-nyuck.

I've taken it to help counteract sea sickness before while fishing on Lake Michigan, and just thought it may help w/ getting used to circle flying too, until your inner ear gets used to the spins. Just wondering if you, or anyone else reading has ever tried that?

Were I you... I'd drag it out, dust it off, and fly that bad boy... You never know, we may have another convert to U-Control in the making...

I used to build the cockpit box with the cardboard provided in the kit, then cut off the floor. Then install the pilots, but cut off their poor little legs at the knees, in order to clear the bellcrank and pushrod. But I saw how the R/C guys do it on larger planes, and tried a "semi-flat" approach, that seems to work really well... Only the 1000 series planes come with the cockpit box. and I wish that the 400 series kits had that cardstock included.

Um... My generation is "famous" for getting dizzy on purpose... (if you get my drift...) Getting a bit silly in the middle of the circle is reason for merryment...
