Fokker DR-1 Triplane Build

Postby ispaydeu » Fri Aug 31, 2012 7:29 am

I had made a previous post with an introduction and a couple pictures of past models and early picture of the Triplane I am working on. But thought I would go ahead and just make a new thread dedicated to the Triplane progress instead of burying them under a "My introduction" thread. This is my third balsa model ever, did 1 about 13 years ago, another one last month, and now this one. Overall, I'm HOPING to do the full process of silkspan + dope, and just a overall quality job.

I've doubled all the stringers on the back half of the plane, then did Balsa Inlay on the front top and tripled the stringers on the front bottom. This is just a static/display piece so not concerned about weight, was trying to make the front of the plane appear more like sheet metal when covered hence the attempt with the front have the inlay and triple stringers.

Next step will be working on the wings!

Here's my dust collecting DR1, since it's static, I covered it with ink jet printed lozenge, using plain old printer paper. It was easy and cheap and allowed me to cut and glue the rib tape for a little added touch. Its also very durable. I managed to lose the motor during the build, so the prop is held on with a wood screw, with a printer paper prop boss.
