Mustang build 500 kit.

I have my frame work done and I was adding tissue, I didn't like the way it looked so I took it all off. I want to use balsa wood and filler to use instead of tissue. I would appreciate any and all advise and recommendations. Thanks. I will add photo's as I go along.

I too just recently did my first Guillow's build with the infill technique, and David helped explain several key things to do when attempting it.

Especially review pages 2 - 6 of his build log, and if you still have any questions, there are plenty of people here willing to lend a helping hand.

I would think that normal wood filler would work just fine. There is a product called Balsalite or something like that, I've heard about on these forums. Did you check David Duckett's builds. He used some kind of filler on his recent B-29 build?

As a newbie, my tissue ends up looking like a wet blanket. I like the idea to infill with wood filler. I am guessing you could lay the wings, rudder and stabilizer flat, and infill that way. But cant think how you could infill the fuselage

If you look at David Ducket's plane you will see how he does it. I does look like it would take more time but I think for me it will work better than tissue.

I built this plane years ago and sheeted it. The fuse could have turned out better if I had done it in recent times, as I didn't have much experience back then. There the lot of filler around the bottom cooler intake area. Inset planking would be a more straightforward method, for someone that hasn't done a lot of sheeting. Recently I built a new sheeted wing for the plane. The wing is very easy to sheet with light 1/32" balsa, and takes much less time than inset planking. Although the sheeting makes the wing a bit thicker, the saddle can easily be sanded a bit to fit it.

I really like the way David Ducket did his plane. And the one Bill Gaylord did with the sheets also looks cool. I was just wonder if David had to add extra stringers or because of size of plane it had so many stringers. Thanks for all the help.

Hello again, I was just wondering on the 500 kit for Mustang, it does not have a lot of stringers line David Ducket's B-29. Would you add more stringers so that you could place wood with fillers? All recommendations welcome. Tabitha
