computer generated decals

Postby Daniel » Mon Oct 15, 2012 4:23 pm

Friends; I am interested in printing my own decals on paper and applying to my planes.
This is my question, "how doI scale the decals so that they print the proper size in the computer. I am using windows 7 on my dell laptop. In the photo editing program you can change the size of the picture to new dimensions using pixels or percentage of the original, so I guess my question really is what is the conversion of pixels to another scale. for instance 1/32 scale is how many pixels ? I hope I didnt confuse anyone too badly. all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated

You will be better off throwing your picture into CAD or a program with CAD capabilities. this will allow you to measure the decal in inches so you can scale to the right size and then print. You can also print your decals on decal paper but I've never done it before so i cant say much on it....

Scale is just that
1 inch = x feet/inches
1:72 scale = 1 inch = 6 feet or 72 inches
1/48 scale means 1 inch = 4 feet or 48 inches
1/32 scale means 1 inch = 32inches
1/24th scale means 1 inch = 2 feet or 24 inches

To be hyper accurate you would need to look up the regulations for the proper size of the roundels ect when the plane was in service if you were going to be that accurate on the semi scale stuff that Guillows puts out I would submit that you might be working to hard at it. You would be amazed at how accurate you can get with as my shop teacher would say a calibrated eyeball.

The best thing to do is use a .pdf scan (adobe acrobat or the like) and scan the parts off the plans to make the roundels as PDF format keeps and respects scale across all formats
