Cessna 180 Group Build

Ask other modelers for a little help / knowledge ?

As a newcomer to this hobby, I hadn't quite realised how much space you need to fly a model like that. When you started listing the dangers and panning the camera across to things in the distance, I thought your tongue was lodged firmly in your cheek. Clearly not!

If and when I get one of these birds to fly, I am going to lose it over the north sea. Wind in the north east of UK can be harsh. Hopefully it will reach Iceland intact.

I have been following this thread , so I went to hobby lobby yesterday and bought the 180 kit,
l want to try and do every thing I can to build a plane that will fly a decent flight time .
while looking over the plans I see no dihedral in the wings , am I correct, and should I add some?

This is such a good flying model out of the box and easy build. When Guillows goes to laser cutting on this series, they are going to be a big hit.

I'm certainly no expert in this sort of thing, but I wonder if they will ever go to laser-cut for this series. I could be completely off my rocker here, but I thought I'd heard somewhere that the wood has to be a certain thickness or the laser will simply set it on fire. It's been a while since I've looked at one of these kits, but isn't the sheetwood in the 600 series pretty thin?

I have Peanut Scale models from Peck Polymers that have laser cut 1/32 balsa.

I must say out of all the laser cut kits I have built, Guillows is the most accurate. The problem is the notches are to exact size of 1/16 inch making for a tight fit. This is not a problem unless you are using the 1/16 strips Guillows has in their kits. I use Midwest 1/16 sq and it fits in the notches perfect. Still, I am not complaining, these are great laser cut kits.

I have been inspired by reading and re-reading this thread. The Cessna 180 is on order, and hopefully around Christmas time I will be able to make a start and join this Group Build about eighteen months too late. :)

ITS NEVER TOO LATE...

Just came across this while I was cleaning up my Hobby Room...
Image
I hope I will finish it one day... The model is mostly done and just needs final assemby... As long as is doesn't get crushed in the "hanger"
I am not used to working on models this delicate... I covered mine with esaki tissue as I was hoping for duration flights.
This SMALL scale is not my forte... I prefer models just a bit larger...
