prop size for the 300 series

Postby Archer58 » Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:04 pm

I just got my winter biuld kits, 300 series Aeronca Champion, Piper super cub, and a Porter. the champion and the cub came with a 5 inch prop and the porter came with a 7 inch prop. The 5 inch looks too small to fly the champion and the cub what should I use?

The 5" prop in those kits is just a joke......why Guillows didn't review the size of the prop in these kits when they went laser cut with them I will never know.

The 7" prop in the porter kit is about the right size for all three, fortunately Howard (kittyfritters) designed that one and obviously advised for a decent sized prop ( he did the beaver too, I have that kit and there is a 7" one in that kit too)

I believe you can order the 7" one as a spare.......

The Fairchild 24 has an 8 1/2" prop. Bigger isn't necessarily better but, just thought I"d throw that out there.

A 5" prop is about the right size for a peanut or a dime (13" or 16" span), not a model with 24" span. You are right bigger isn't always better but in the case of the 300 series models, bigger than what they provide is simply more suitable, if you want your model to fly for More than a few seconds that is.

Even if they put the 6" one that is in the 600 series you'd have a fighting chance.
