It looked like the kit was pretty much all there, with all the important plastic parts there. I saw the $20 shipping and it talked me right out of it, as I may have hit the buy button if it was something reasonable like $7 shipping. I'm not surprised that she tried to scam you for more money, as she already proved that she's questionable in character by drastically overcharging for shipping. Even worse, she has no businesses trying to scam you over a few bucks more, at 20 insane dollars for shipping to begin with! I'm not sure she's even allowed to do that, and I would have reported it if she did. Most people want complete kits, and she's lucky to get $63 for a partial one, which is what you really gave her, as shipping is really only $7. She came back, because she knew she was darn lucky that you offered to buy it.twospruces wrote:HI,
I actually did a buy it now on that on Sunday. I asked for a quote on shipping and the seller said - "I will charge the minimum and no more" then...she charged me 25$.
I didn't like the doublecross so I started to poke back a bit and she relisted.
I was going to get it for my Dad, but instead I am giving him the one I already have, which was new in wrapper.
Best of luck, I'm sure it will be a fun build!
You notice she wanted 20$ for shipping? That is what she came back with, after she said she did not want to grovel over a few bucks. The problem is, I don't like being lied to .
cheers,
SteveM wrote:When I first joined eBay 13 years ago it was common to charge flat rate shipping and try to average out to the actual shipping costs. Now days there is no excuse not to quote exact shipping costs for USPS/UPS/FedEx right there in the auction. Every item I sell is weighed first and the shipping charges you see are determined by your zip code and the physical size and weight of the object. I have reported sellers charging outrageous shipping prices (eg. $40 for a 400 series kit) and have seen them be forced to re-list at a more reasonable rate, but I don't think I would report $20-$25 as that doesn't quite blatantly step into highway robbery the way some do.
I think $50 is fair though. A few years ago I paid a guy on Craigslist $40 for a Mosquito that was started, but otherwise intact.
twospruces wrote:Sorry, I have not been clear;
- she originally had no price for shipping
- original quote 25 via email.
- questioned; she said she would charge the minimum
- buy it now; she invoices 25 immediately.
- I complain; she offers 20 or relist
- I advise relist
...And she is deceptive and not trustworthy!
