I saw the same mosqito. I guess the plastics alone make it a good deal. There are a couple of good deals on some P-38s on e-bay as well. I was thinking about getting one. But I still have over 20 planes to build. And that would make me look like a hoarder LOL :P

HI,
I actually did a buy it now on that on Sunday. I asked for a quote on shipping and the seller said - "I will charge the minimum and no more" then...she charged me 25$.
I didn't like the doublecross so I started to poke back a bit and she relisted.
I was going to get it for my Dad, but instead I am giving him the one I already have, which was new in wrapper.
Best of luck, I'm sure it will be a fun build!
You notice she wanted 20$ for shipping? That is what she came back with, after she said she did not want to grovel over a few bucks. The problem is, I don't like being lied to .

cheers,

Well I woudn't consider 20 planes a hoarder I have that many laying around I had three skeeters at one time but sold em.I should have held onto them! I'am not sure what i will do with this plane.Id like to build it for contol line maybe electric motors that way the plastics wont get ruined by the fuel. Plus its quieter not that I would have that problem where I live. Let me see I have a Dauntless a P-38 P-47 P-40 Two corsairs and a bunch of smaller planes .I was told by this person that some of the parts are missing ,today she emailed me and said she found more parts. This should be interesting to say the least! I took a chance and I hope the wife dont get too upset lol! I figure for 50 bucks the plastics are well worth it!I wish guillows would reproduce the plastics for all of the discontinued planes. So either I build it for static or control line electric..I have a 4 channel radio but I dont think i would want to do that as i'am not a good pilot.Mark

It looked like the kit was pretty much all there, with all the important plastic parts there. I saw the $20 shipping and it talked me right out of it, as I may have hit the buy button if it was something reasonable like $7 shipping. I'm not surprised that she tried to scam you for more money, as she already proved that she's questionable in character by drastically overcharging for shipping. Even worse, she has no businesses trying to scam you over a few bucks more, at 20 insane dollars for shipping to begin with! I'm not sure she's even allowed to do that, and I would have reported it if she did. Most people want complete kits, and she's lucky to get $63 for a partial one, which is what you really gave her, as shipping is really only $7. She came back, because she knew she was darn lucky that you offered to buy it.
I just bought a kit there from a seller named Rcboneyard. He actually gave me a few dollars back after getting his shipping quote, charging less than most do for shipping. His original shipping quote was already reasonable, and I'll buy from him again.

When I first joined eBay 13 years ago it was common to charge flat rate shipping and try to average out to the actual shipping costs. Now days there is no excuse not to quote exact shipping costs for USPS/UPS/FedEx right there in the auction. Every item I sell is weighed first and the shipping charges you see are determined by your zip code and the physical size and weight of the object. I have reported sellers charging outrageous shipping prices (eg. $40 for a 400 series kit) and have seen them be forced to re-list at a more reasonable rate, but I don't think I would report $20-$25 as that doesn't quite blatantly step into highway robbery the way some do.

I think $50 is fair though. A few years ago I paid a guy on Craigslist $40 for a Mosquito that was started, but otherwise intact.

I meant to report her after she tried to charge $25, when she listed $20. Thought that was pretty obvious:
"Even worse, she has no businesses trying to scam you over a few bucks more, at 20 insane dollars for shipping to begin with! I'm not sure she's even allowed to do that, and I would have reported it if she did."

She had charged an insane $20, but that's her choice. Reporting her for trying to get more money for you after the sale should be done, in this case. The situation should be noted there also, as I like to get a fair warning about what to expect from a bad vendor. I'm not suggesting they will do this, but it is what should be done.

Sorry, I have not been clear;

- she originally had no price for shipping
- original quote 25 via email.
- questioned; she said she would charge the minimum
- buy it now; she invoices 25 immediately.
- I complain; she offers 20 or relist
- I advise relist

...And she is deceptive and not trustworthy!

I clicked on the ad and it said 20 for shipping to me. Maybe that was based on my location, but I imagine it isn't too different for either me or you. I completely side with you on this one. Of course we all know that the minimum is something like 8 bucks or even less.

The last one recently sold for within a few dollars (complete kit) although they do only come up so often. I'd be half tempted to make accurate plaster molds and start vacuum molding the parts myself, then selling them with laser cut kits like what DPC does. The molded parts are what everyone wants.

yah once she relisted it, the ad had 20$ shipping posted. I did the buy it now within a few hours of the ad going up on Sunday. I have an ebay search specifically for mosquito. So, I think you saw the ad possibly after it was relisted?

Hi to all ...I didn't post this thread to hear storys of how people overcharge shipping. This person has a rating of 4 which we know they probably havent been on ebay long. yes the shipping could have been alittle cheaper !I will question people on ebay about costs of shipping at times! I'am not going to argue with someone about a few bucks.I charge people on ebay a packing fee, they probably dont like it but they get their stuff and I have a 99.9 % rating! Yes Ive been off the mark on a shipping rates but Sometimes ive been under! Just the other day I shipped a bracket for a mustang out. This time i forgot to charge a packing fee. Well I had to drive to the fed ex store to ship it and get a pvc tube to ship it in..I ate the cost of the pvc tube and of course the gas money! Just had to ad my two cents worth!
