Kit #504 build question

Postby Smee » Wed Feb 20, 2013 2:01 pm

Hi All

I'm on my first build and hit a bit of a query around adding L1 to the fuselage.
The 'how to booklet' says to cement L1 to the formers and then adding the stringers but I've also seen various builds on forums where it is obvious L1 has been added after the stringers

So do I add stringers first like the mock up in the photo or put in L1 then build the stringers around it?

I must admit, adding the stingers first feels more correct but I might be wrong

both are doable, You should probably put SOME stringers on first
Like the one that goes ABOVE L1.
Look on the back of the plans where you see the stringer diagrams. that will let you see where they go.

The bottom edge of L1 should be pretty close to the bottom edge of the fuselage formers B3 and B4. there is a stringer that goes over the top edge of L1 that L1 sort of attaches to.

Like joe said, either way will work. I like to add L1 after the stringers are installed. I think it's easier to adjust the fit of the pieces.

I wasn't able to see the pictures before but your FIRST pic, that is the correct way they should be done.

you should bring down the L1 piece flush to the formers. just like in your first picture. then a stringer will go right above it, and straight thru. thats why L1 is flat on top. the stringer sits right on top.
