some Ebay sellers make more off their "shipping charges" than they do off their item. Shipping charges should be the actual cost, not some jacked-up rate to make even more profit. If they don't think they are making enough profit off their item, they should keep it.

I agree this forum is about fun building models!

I guess the reason I chimed in is because, basically, the woman was deceitful. If she had simply said..."I require you to pay XX for shipping" then I would have been ok. But, she lied, got caught, and then I had to decide...do I trust this person now that I know she will lie? 10$ or 20$ is not the issue.

My apology. I didn't realize that until now.
I got confused when twospruces posted about his experience, thinking that he was the thread starter, which was really you. That's a reasonable assumption, given that both of you posted about Mosquito purchases.

twospruces wrote:HI,
I actually did a buy it now on that on Sunday. I asked for a quote on shipping and the seller said - "I will charge the minimum and no more" then...she charged me 25$.
I didn't like the doublecross so I started to poke back a bit and she relisted.
I was going to get it for my Dad, but instead I am giving him the one I already have, which was new in wrapper.
Best of luck, I'm sure it will be a fun build!
You notice she wanted 20$ for shipping? That is what she came back with, after she said she did not want to grovel over a few bucks. The problem is, I don't like being lied to .

cheers,

"I also bought one of these kits also on Sunday" would have made it clear that there was a purchaser of a different, unique Mosquito kit who was chiming in. A new, unique thread would have achieved the same purpose. As the post was written, "I actually did a buy it now on that on Sunday", it appears that it was referring to the same listing. Since only one person can buy from a single auction, then anyone posting about buying from that auction would have to be the same person.

@ Bill,

It was EXACTLY the same ITEM. I jumped on it first, and threw it back.

cheers, Steve

Totally confused now. :D So you bid on the same Mosquito, but were referring to a different Mosquito that you eventually bought?

Mustangman there's another one of these kits there now. I'm tempted to see if I can get if for 50 bucks, like you did.
BTW, I'm starting a new thread entitled Mustangman's Mosquito Starting Over. :D

Good deal. May I recommend that you start a fresh build thread for your model? This thread is already on page 2 and no Mosquito pictures, yet. :(

Before you start cutting the plastic parts, make a PP mold(Plaster of Paris) with a cloth screen backing for strength. PP is cheap and can be had at an Ace HW or craft store. I got a 1# bucket at my local Ace HW store for 3-4 bucks.

I've been thinking about buying one of these kits, just for that purpose. If you don't mind spending a bit of loot, you can always get one on Ebay. These kits seem to be highly desirable. Someone should spend a bit of CAD time and create an LC version, and then make the plastic parts from a mold made from the original. It would be nice to have an LC kit available for the few dedicated modelers that really enjoy these kits, and not for a profit operation. I've thought about doing it.

Edited, just to note that I don't care to be characterized as someone who copies intellectual property just for money.

Yes, if one had no qualms about making money off the hard work and copyrights of others.

Nobody said that any money would be made. In fact there's very little money to begin with in small kit operations, even when they do make any. There's a difference between labors of love, and profiteering. As a modeler, you need to learn the difference. The profiteers are the resellers who hunt down these kits and auction them on Ebay, for profit only. As of now, that seems to be the only way to obtain one.

You're just stirring the pot and creating an irrelevant, unnecessary, and pointless argument. I really wish that people would stop doing that on the model forums. Nothing has happened yet as I don't even have one of these kits, so you need to learn to hold your horses, as controversial statements serve no purpose. You're also implying by default that anyone who wants one of these Long Out Of Production kits must sign up for Ebay and Paypal, and then buy one from an auction at inflated prices.

It's not like copying Spektrum production receivers and labeling them as genuine Spektrum. Not exactly like HK copying products and airplanes that are new and current releases of other companies. This kit was made ages ago, and there are only a few NOS available. Guillows can put the kit back into production at any time if they wanted to, but do not choose to, although many of us including myself wish that they would. There are a number of cottage basement operations that have made LC kits of long out of production kits, as well as numerous sites that sold copyright plans for profit. I'll have to track them all down, and see if you've left uncomplimentary comments for all of them also. You should, to be fair, rather than just singling me out. To name just a few of the many who have made LC kits of long out of production models:
Brand X Models (Comet)
Aero Werks DPCM (Comet, Guillows, Sterling, and Scientific Models)
