3 Stooges...

Hey Guys... trying to get ready for WESTFAC IV,,, thought I needed a real Stooge...

Found these 3 stooges on the net:
1.
HEY THATS ME... WHO PUT THAT A LINK TO WINDING STOOGES?

This one is very BAD planes are not secure and table is not secure. I did not wind the models very much

This one looks very nice and will secure the models well and be secure, but a bit much for me to build right now...

3.
This one a guy built to mount in the back of his Hatch back car... That gave me my idea...

Went to Home Depot... bought 4 L brackets for .65 and 2 Eye bolts...


I can get 2 models ready for a Dogfight...


or by moving the brackets, I will be ready for my twin engine planes when that comes... Mitch

Try one like this. The support that can slide back and forth under the rails, is topped with a pad of soft foam rubber. The lanyard keeps you from loosing the pin. Of course you have to use tubular motor pegs. There is a guy who builds these, but I don't know how to contact him. I won this one in a club raffle.

Thanks for the response... Yours looks like Stooge No.2 Very nice, but I did not want to take the time to build.
Stooge No.1 was what I came up with last summer and I needed to have longer rear pegs to "grab"... It worked Okay for light winding...
Now I will have metal tube rear pegs and as you say the pin goes though that... for the picture I just used some music wire I had... I plan to go to Hobby shop and buy thicker wire... I will put a loop on the end and lanyard and tie each one to the Eye bolt.

I derived mine from Stooge No. 3... I put this "Stooge" together for 5 dollars in about 5 minutes. I found the piece of ply in my garage so only bought the Brackets and Eye Bolts. I had the tie down straps also. I may add some padding to protect the models. I don't mind "Battle" damage but I hate to carelessly damage the models!

Here are the winders I have... the yellow on is 15:1 and designed for indoor models... The other is an old drill I had and turns at 4:1


I am planning to go to my first contest next month and try to have everything I need... Mitch

SO to REVIEW... The Stooge is important to wind your model to full potential... The Stooge should be secure and the model need to be secure and a good winder is helpful too.

Your drill winder is SCARY! I see no evidence of the hook having a safety loop going around the back of the chuck or a safety hook passing through a cross drilled hole in the drill's shaft. If the hook is just chucked in the drill, with no safety backup, one of these days it's going to come loose while winding and destroy a model. I've seen it happen.

I noticed that after I posted the picture, I should have shown the other side...

This was already brought to my attention by one of you when I made this winder last spring. I drilled a hole in the chuck and the wire is secure.
