New electric Winder versus Tan Rubber that is questionable..

I have an electric winder that I use for trim flights seems to be working out so far. It is not the most expensive one on the market but it does keep count and is good for maybe two hundred winds. Oh heck I’ll post a pic of it. I mail ordered it from Hobby King.
$ 5.13 uds. Plus the shipping and handling.

Those electric winders are of limited value if you want to pile on the winds from what I can tell

I assume that the thing goes over the prop and whirrrrr, it winds up the rubber. But (and this is a big But) I don't think it allows you to stretch wind does it?

You are correct it does have a limited use and can not stretch wind. I use mine for Trim Flights only. I also have a Sig Uncle Sam that I use it on as well. When I want to really wind I use a hand crack kind as I like to have a “Feel” of the rubber being winded.

I'd be a bit worried about how the knots are being distributed (and upsetting the c of g especially during trimming) do you get bunching with long motors?

You have a very good point. You see actually I have been “Trimming’ the same model over and over again. I have been testing different props and different thickness of rubber. Why would anyone wastes there time like that. Well that’s a good point too. I didn’t know really what I was doing but I can say I learned a ton about rubber from this experience. So I can’t really say it was a waste of time. Anyway I would braid the motor crank in about 100 turns. Tune it in a bit nose heavy. After I had the model close I would chuck it in the stooge and do a regular set of winds. For what it’s worth I found out the 1/8 “ rubber (Like everyone was saying) is the best size for a 500 series kit.

Exact same one that I got.

i got about 100 winds on the rubber (using some older peck stuff that I had sitting around) Must have been to old or something wrong with it. It fused together and it just shattered ripped a bit of skin off the plane n all.
