Hi,
Here is a link to a thread relating to the very popular BMFA indoor nationals kit scale competition which is held in Nottingham England each year. This competition is designed to ease modellers in to the stricter open classes. All you need to compete (other than your model!) is a kit plan and a picture of a real aircraft OR the box art to verify your chosen colour scheme. Painted schemes and moveable control surfaces are penalised to keep models simple. There is static judging and flights are judged on the quality of the flight once the 10 second qualifying time is reached.
Once you win, then you are banned for at least five years to cajole you into progressing to the stricter classes, this explains Dan Mellors initial comment in the thread since he got banned this year......
A competition like this in the States would really open up the possibilities for Guillows kits, maybe someone in the powers that be in your national bodies might consider organising something similar?
