Fokker DR-1

Postby duk774 » Wed Aug 28, 2013 2:58 pm

I am having difficulty figuring out exactly how the landing gear attaches to the fuselage of the Fokker DR-1. There are no clear cut drawings or pictures of it.
The aircraft is coming along beautifully. I haven't built one in over 20-years.
It's the 20" wingspan version by Guillow's
Thanks for any help!

I know exactly what you mean. I fixed one up that my brother in law tried to build but never got past messing up the fuselage. I put the struts to L1 and H1 on each side after notching them and bracing up the sides with a bits of left over balsa stringers to form a sort of socket for the struts to fit into. I suppose you could just glue them on directly, but I wanted them to be a little more firmly anchored.
This too shall pass.

Thank you very much! I believe you're right and I will try this approach.
By the way, Mark (from PKG) suggested a looksie at this site: http://virtualaerodrome.com/image_brows ... &offset=24

Thanks again!
Happy Flying!

The Fokker DR-1 I built years ago, first I did as Goldy suggested to mount the "gear wing" under the fuselage then I glued the gear wire under that little tiny "gear wing" where it looked like it needed to go on the plans then took a scrap piece of balsa the length of the little "gear wing" and notched it the full length for the gear to lay in and sandwiched the gear wire between the scrap piece and the little " gear wing" I'm not sure if that's helpful but that's what I did and it worked out well for me.
