newbie introduction

Postby dipz » Wed Oct 30, 2013 1:03 pm

Hello all,

This is my first post on this forum. I am absolutely newbie in the world of aeromodelling. I just have ordered a PC6-Porter / Rubber Powered on an online store and the kit is on its way towards me. I am going to build this model for my 9 year old son.

I have read various posts from all of you on this forum. At this moment when I haven't yet seen my first kit ever, there is no questions about how to build my plane, but it would be a good idea to get all required tools and other things. I just wanted to know what is included in kit and what I need to arrange myself.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to our forum and hobby, a nice kit would be the Edge 540. Guillow's newest kit, and designed for beginners! I will post a list of tools in my tool box! Mitch

I just have received my first ever aeromodelling kit (kit # 304) and very excited to start building. When checking out the parts I found some balsa parts broken during transit. These are: W4 x 2, A3, W1 x 2, and couple of dowels. Do I stick broken parts with white glue?

Moreover, if anybody here from India, please help me with preferable brands/type for glue, dope, and cement, as I couldn't find the products suggested here.

Thanks in advance.

If it is easer to glue the broken parts that is what I would do. However, the instruction sheet does show the full size part in profile. You may have to cut a new part out of scrap Balsa.

I am sure sometime in your modeling career you will get curious and want to try out the 50/50 water / white glue formula. I suggest that you do it on your first build.

I recommend Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Glue, Now Stronger Formula!
Hobby knife with #11 X-Acto blade
Single edge razor blades
Plastic wrap for covering the plans
Metal straight edge
Small bottle of clear dope and thinner
Artist brush
Aluminum oxide sandpaper, 100, 180, 240
Dead flat building board
Weights, pins or magnets to hold parts while glue dries

sorry to hear your kit was damaged. the kit giives a pretty good list of things and directions i thought, but if they dont have the brands named in india try surfing your web. thats what i do (until my boss gets mad) and sooner or later youll find a compatible substitute. he 300 kits are nice, and sould be a good 1st model. i hope it brings you as much fulfillment as it does for me. if i didnt pick up this hobby, God knows what I'd be getting myself into.
