i got a SE5 and a 25 pc. set of acrylics for 5 bucks on E bay. the paints were 5 bucks, and i also got a 25 pc, artist brush set for 6 bucks, and i got the SE 5 and several other sealed models for 30 bucks

Opening a model box from antiquity and finding the contents just as useable as they were when put in the box is almost a metaphor for the hobby itself. Many of the folks on this forum have returned to building after being away from it for years only to find the same enjoyment as remembered but sweetened with years which allow a finer appreciation for something you make with your own hands and the patience to make it as well as you can. It also reminds one that the hobby really hasn't changed much at all. It's still the cheapest entertainment on the planet.

I think you have some artistic ability with words, too. Right on!

From the part of the painting visible in your attachment, it's obvious you're quite a good artist! My own paintings are a bit crummy except when I luck out sometimes and crank out an okay one. For me, art has a big element of luck in it. I like model building a lot more.

That painting is coming along very nicely...good luck with the surgery, though I'm sure you won't need it. Those cataract jobs are so commonplace now, there really isn't much to worry about. I have friends who even got their lenses replaced with corrective ones and don't even have to wear glasses anymore.

That sounds like a good deal Dave... I spent about that for my Comet 19 3/16" ws Cougar, found at a LHS. Mine is for tether flying also. Mitch
