Ask other modelers for a little help / knowledge ?

this is my 3rd model. version 2.0. i had to rebuild the fuselage after a crash. i sheeted the whole frnt forward of cabin with 1/32, and made a new landing gear with thicker wire, and soft tires. even with the weight this thing eill still glide very well. considering how bad of a pilot i am, thats good ! i am refitting it with an Eflite 270 brushless, and 7.5g servos, and using it with my new spektrum dx6 i finally paid of on layaway.i hope alot of my fling trouble was due to the cheap transmitter i had used.

Torsion bar landing gear probably the lightest and strongest. The landing gear wire is made up of two identical pieces. The horizontal sections (torsion bar part) overlap. Note the 90 degree bend is made with two 45 degree bends. By tweaking the 45 degree chamfer, you can dial in a precise horizontal length and easily locate the bend where the wire exits the fuselage right where you want it.

The top of the 1/16" balsa landing gear strut fairing slides in a slot in the fuselage, and the bottom end of the fairing is bound to the wire with thread wrap.

thanks. im building the Edge 540, and the design lends itself perfectly to this. I cant beliieve they didnt put it in the plan this way.

I agree. The landing gear, and structure in general, is weak and heavy on most Guillow's kits. I see no well engineered designs by ANY manufacturer, so I'm not singling Guillow's out for criticism. I decided to re-design the classic Aeronca Champ #301 to make it more durable, lighter and easier to build. I'm in the process of re-engineering the Super Cub #303 and will post plans and build thread for you when it's ready.

Check out the landing gear designs on the Porter, Beaver and Edge 540. Note: one thing that is not clear in the Beaver plans is that the balsa landing gear strut is not glued to the paper fairing and that it is cut short to allow movement inside the fairing. The upper strut in the Porter landing gear simply goes through a hole in the side of the fuselage, without being glued there, and also allows movement. I think you'll find that thanks to extensive flight testing the landing gears on the newer Guillow's designs do not break on landing.

The Edge is the best design so for IMHO. I think it will survive my rough landings. I am putting off my Edge maiden flight till I practice more with my trainer.

i bought an Ares Taylorcraft trainer and had my first successful rog & landing today. the landing was not pretty, but it was a landing.i bought this because it is the same size as my cub I built a year ago, crashed, and now have it ready to fly again. I do not want to destroy my Guillows planes I spent so much time constructing. I am almost a confident enough pilot to try my Cub 303 that I rebuilt. It has the same electronics as the taylorcraft RTF, and motor. it does weigh 40g more than the Taylor, but I was flying IT easily at 1/3 throttle, and the Ares Taylor offers an upgrade kit with a wing that has an additional servo and aelerons; im assuming this adds weight. my Cub 303 is 105g RTF, and the Ares Taylor is 58g RTF without the aeleron kit; so I think it'll fly.

I reinforced the forward fuselage. Like I always say; If you gotta add weight anyway to balance, it might as well be put to use. The next time I add to this post, I hope it's about my flight review. Wish me luck. I need it.

Thanks, I'mgonna need it with it being 40g's too heavy,but those little motors are powerful. I'm just gonna have to run it at full throttle till it gets some altitude.
