Where in the world is David Duckett?

As some have noticed David Duckett hasn't posted in a while. A few observant people may have noticed that his extremely valuable posts on how he paints with acrylics and his tissue covering techniques no long exist. For example, here is a link to his tissue covering tutorial: viewtopic.php?p=2441

He asked Mark (the admin) to delete his account and all of his posts, which has been done. David shared his reasons for leaving this forum with me, but clearly had he wanted to let everyone on this forum know about it he could have done so himself before leaving. Let me just say that it was due to one or more people on this forum that were very rude and combative towards him. We're all a bit rude and short at times, intentionally or accidentally due to the nature of communicating through text, but we're talking about above and beyond the call of duty that makes participating in this community unpleasant and contributing to it unthinkable.

So where is he now?

I miss him alot. He was always so helpful, and generous to help, and share his knowledge. I owe alot to him as far as learning and improving my building techniques. Who could ever offend such a thorough guy like him. It's a shame He's gone because He brought so much to this forum.

I was going to post something in question along the same lines "What happened to him?". He was a very valuable member of this forum...I figured something must have been up. I wish there was something we could do that would make him change his mind and come back, his posts were always helpful and his work so inspiring.

I have not been in this hobby long but I have been a consumer for a long time and if I got an email like this, well, my response would not be very nice.

Oh goodie, another stellar customer who thinks the world revolves around them. It's because of people like you with your wonderful personality that we decided to close this division of our business. We got sick of dealing with your type and no amount of money is worth people like you with your attitude. Guess you don't purchase online much as I've waited plenty of times more than 7 days for an item to ship and just happy to get it ESPECIALLY during a closeout sale - 7 or 10 days isn't going to affect my life any. Unless of course I only have a little while left to live then I might need to get something a little quicker.

Check your credit card statement. We don't actually charge for ANY credit card order UNTIL the day it is actually shipped. I know you're more special than everyone else but there were hundreds of orders before you and hundreds after you that have NUMEROUS items they purchased that does take time for the two whole people pulling AND packing the orders. To be fair to ALL our customers - FIRST TIMERS as well as customers who have been with us from the beginning years ago when we started, we are pulling orders on a first in first out basis. If you wanted it earlier guess you should have placed it earlier. Personally if you had sent an email like this BEFORE your order shipped I would have with great pleasure cancelled your order. And since your card isn't charged until shipped there would have been nothing to refund. You should just be so proud of your anger. Wow a whole 7 days you had to wait and something as little as that flips you out? Amazing.... You could have always cancelled your order after what ever time you thought it should have shipped and didn't. No one made you keep your order placed if you were so upset it didn't go out immediately. YOU had 7 days to cancel it before it was shipped so why didn't you cancel it if you were so unbelievably upset?? That is sloppy on your part as you had a choice and didn't do anything.

Have a good time in life sir with your anger. My staff and I only have to put up with angry abusive people like you until May 30th. Then we're going to get to truly enjoy life because WE won't have to be cursed at because someone had to wait during a CLOSING SALE a whole whopping 7 days for their order to ship and they weren't even CHARGED until the day it shipped. Oh and 4pm is when our postman picks up the mail....not when we decided the time to wait to ship your package. I have no control over his pickup time no more than you have control over what actual time your postman delivers your package.

I hope you calm down and enjoy life. Anger like that is going to give you a heart attack.

So unbelievably glad we decided to close this division. 20 days can't go by soon enough...

I can only imagine what was said to insight such a response. I have dealt with A to Z often for the years they had the model division and NEVER had an issue. Although I do not condone that type behavior, I believe that taking a personally addressed response such as that and placing it on online in a public forum is bad form. I'd love to see the comments from David that started that reaction. This is why David left this forum. He had been caught up in many, many of these types of discussions. I myself harbor no ill will towards David and appreciate both his modelling and artistic talents as well thank him for his services for our country in the air force. I wish him luck wherever he lands. I look forward to the continued quiet on this forum that has begun since his absence.

Note: Before you all think I'm one of the awful bad guys who chased poor David away, I want to say I have never had an argument with the man. I have kept my typing hands quiet while watching him do what he does on this forum that eventually led to his leaving.

I find that funny as when I bought my first model I was searching on-line, looking at forums, etc and came across David's name again and again as a person who clearly knew what he was doing. I guess everyone agrees on the talented part. I reached out to him, through this forum if memory serves, and he has been nothing but a wealth of info. For a recluse he has been free with his address, his life story as well as being willing to point me in a direction he thought might work for me. Never have I gotten a negative response to anything I have asked or done. He also is one of about 3 people even willing to offer advice on this forum (at least to me).

I am new here, I am new to the modeling community, and I certainly am not trying to make enemies or cause a fight, but I will not sit by while people want to talk nonsense about a guy who has been nothing but kind to me.

Yes, you and everyone else can have an opinion but I am the type that LOVES to share mine as well. God bless America, free speech and the interwebs.

I am very happy you found the best in David. I too believe he has at times been very willing to offer advice and help. He is not without his qualities and maybe it would be best to try and remember only those things as he exits this forum. Please remember just as you said that you are new to the hobby and to this forum and that many people here have had a long history with this forum, hobby, and David. Don't discount what others may have been involved in with regard to David. I have found that most members here do not have any ill intentions when they start interacting but things happen and opinions are created. Nobody is commenting without warrant including you. Do not mistake anyone's comments for cheap shots but as sage advice from those who know. I wish you the best in this hobby and I do hope that if I see you have a question or a concern with anything you are building or trimming for flight that I can help.

I'm a bit confused here. The above statement quoted from a few messages prior seems to conflict with comments that used to reside at the Virtual Aerodrome site at.

Since the comments at that location no longer are there and were replaced by a picture of a mama deer and her offspring, the comments have been likewise removed here. (however, copies of them and other stuff live on a backup flashdrive - not that they are all that relevant but as a kind of a reminder of what really was at one time )

I dunno, seems like this new fangled social media is way above this old septuagenarians snowy topped head. Each passing day, I am reminded by Alice's comment in wonderland ' ...things are becoming weirder and weirder...'
